Welcome to the Third Year Blog!

Well, we’re back! Sort of…

Given the unwelcome news of a surge in Covid-19 cases over the past few weeks, the return of e-Hampton might, sadly, have been as predictable as Manchester United’s League Cup semi-final defeat on Wednesday night. However, there’s no cause for doom and gloom, and no time for it either – term is up and running, and it’s sure to be action-packed!

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be on the lookout for anything and everything that the Third Year boys are getting up to at home. Whether that be impressive pieces of home learning, successful sporting challenges or new skills being learnt, we want to see and hear about everything that you get up to over the next few weeks. Look out for news and information from the various Hampton Twitter feeds, and keep your eyes peeled for entertaining challenges that might help add a bit of spice to your day.

Do send anything blog-worthy over to j.neville@hamptonschool.org.uk and we’ll be sure to include it in future Third Year blogs!

Have a great half term at e-Hampton everyone!

Heads of Year Message

Although a second period of School closures due the Covid-19 pandemic is an unwelcome development since New Year, we are confident that all Hamptonians will respond positively once again. Given the experience of the School closure from March to July, we are confident that Third Years will continue to benefit from a thorough educational experience across a full and varied curriculum. This weekly blog will play an important role as we circulate important updates, notices and reminders; report on news and Third Year success stories; set creative, physical, community and interform challenges; and reflect the experiences of the boys during this period of Guided Home Learning.

We have been very impressed with the way that all Third Years have adapted quickly to the Guided Home Learning environment at e-Hampton. This week you have all demonstrated a clear intent to strive for personal bests despite the challenging and uncertain circumstances. Please keep these efforts up as the term progresses and let us or your Form Tutors know if you are having any difficulties.

A few reminders to ensure everyone is interpreting the Advice on Guided Home Learning document correctly:

  • You shouldn’t be using mobile phones whilst in lessons or during the School day (as normal).
  • Don’t alter your profile picture when using MS Teams.
  • Please arrive for all registrations, form periods and lessons promptly on MS Teams when they are scheduled.
  • You will need to “register” that you are ready to work on Firefly by 8:45am each morning and attend a morning registration on MS Teams with your Form Tutors at 8:45am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, or a Form Period at 10:15am on Mondays and Thursdays.

We look forward to seeing your contributions to this weekly blog and hope it will be a useful outlet for your creativity, community spirit and competitive instincts during the period of remote learning.

Best wishes

Miss V Smith & Mr T Rigby

PE & Sports

Look out for upcoming information on how your PE lessons and Games afternoons will work during the first half of the spring term. We’re keen for everyone to stay healthy, keep active and supplement their day with a good dose of exercise! Don’t forget to abide by Government lockdown rules and restrictions, whatever you get up to.

Did you know? There is clear scientific evidence to support the link between an active lifestyle and increased brain activity? That’s right, going for your daily run might just help you solve that Maths problem a bit quicker than your best mate!

Looking for a workout to do this weekend. Why not have a go at our first H@H workout of the spring term.

You can find our workouts in our eHub. Click on the image below for this weekend’s suggestion:

Third Year Wellbeing

Here are some top tips for looking after your mental and physical wellbeing during the lockdown period:

  1. Stay active – get some exercise every day
  2. Complete your daily online lessons and tasks
  3. Speak to your friends and family
  4. Find time to read a book
  5. Give yourself some space and time to reflect
  6. Keep your room and workspace tidy and clean

Thought for the week

It’s not an easy time for anyone at the moment, and everyone would benefit from a little extra kindness, care and consideration over the coming weeks. To that end, our thought for the week is:

What could you do to make life a little bit easier for everyone in your family?

Whether it be to tidy your room, help cook a meal, look after a younger sibling or call an elderly relative to check on how they’re doing, we are sure that everyone in your family would be grateful of that extra bit of support from you over the coming week. Give it a go!

National Houseplant Week – w/c 11 January

To get you started this term, we’ve got a Biology-themed challenge for you! To celebrate National Houseplant Week (I can see you rolling your eyes back there…), we’d like to see some of your best poses in front of your treasured houseplants, along with a story about what makes them so special. That’s right, move over Christmas tree, the houseplant is back in the limelight!

Send over your photos and stories to j.neville@hamptonschool.org.uk.

And, don’t forget, you can’t plant flowers if you haven’t ‘botany’… (Ed – I see that you didn’t get any funnier over Christmas…)

Have a great weekend, everyone!
