Boys in Year 5 have the opportunity to sit our 10+ Advance Place examination for deferred entry to the First Year (Year 7) at 11+. Around 35 places are offered each year. The 10+ exam is held at Hampton at the beginning of November in Year 5 and assists parents who feel their son is ready to sit a formal exam and who wish to reduce the complexities and uncertainties of the 11+ assessments in Year 6.
Please note that registration for the 10+ Advance Place exam (for deferred entry in 2025) has now closed. You can now register for the 10+ Advance Place exam for entry in 2026.

The Entrance Assessments
Assessment for a 10+ Advance Place entry to the First Year is via written exam, interview and school reference.
Candidates sit two papers:
Creative Writing (30 minutes)
Mathematics (40 minutes)
We shall write to your son’s current headteacher in advance of the Entrance exam to request a confidential report in support of his application.
Candidates who demonstrate potential in the written assessments are invited for interview. The interviews play a key role in our decision-making and enable us to get to know the boys as people and to explore not only their academic and all-round potential, but also their ‘fit’ with our Hampton ethos and values. Candidates meet separately with a member of our teaching staff for around 20 minutes.
Offers & Acceptances
The results of the assessment process are posted at the beginning of December and acceptances required early March the following year.
Boys who are not successful are invited to sit the 11+ exam completely afresh in Year 6.
