Welcome to the First Year Blog!

The First Year have been undaunted by the inclement weather this week, and have thrown themselves with enthusiasm into their lessons as they adjust to the new ‘normal’ at e-Hampton. We have seen some great work from the boys already, and we hope they are enjoying the interactive element of their lessons. Remember to take some time for yourselves and get a well earned rest after a full week of learning!

MENTOR PROFILES WITH AADI K

This week I interviewed one of our Sixth Form mentors, Luke Greenall.

A mentor empowers a person to see a possible future and believe it can be obtained.

How do you encourage innovative ideas in your form?

I constantly encourage the children in my form to take part in as many activities as possible because they might find they love it.

Do you have a mentor and why?

My form tutor and Music teachers are probably my mentors because I want to do Music at university and they’re the ones who are very supportive and help me achieve what I want to do.

What subjects are you doing for A-Levels?

Music, Maths and Drama. I’m the only one in the year who’s doing that combination. It involves a lot of work.

Do you have any books that I should read?

One which would come to mind is: Bounce by Matthew Syed, a professional tennis player. I would definitely recommend some people read this book.

How are you finding it to work from home?

I’m not the biggest fan of working from home as I have two practical subjects: Music and Drama. They require a lot of space. Space at home is very limited. Personally, I like to interact face to face.

Who has influenced you the most?

It would probably be my dad because he’s incredibly hard working and always puts others before him. That for me is something to look up to.

How would you approach the unknown?

I would approach the unknown with immense confidence and I would try to be as aware as possible.  Also, I would try to talk to as many people as possible as this will help me to know more people and create new contacts.

Project Explore!

This week marks the launch of Project EXPLORE! Mr Hill, Mrs Halford and your Form Tutors will be providing more details on this next week, alongside a letter your parents will have received, but for now, here is a sneak peak of what the project entails:

FIRST YEAR OLYMPICS

Time for your first challenge; this week we will be testing your dexterity! What is the most challenging origami animal you can make? Use the following website to get instructions and difficulty levels for each animal, and submit a photo of your best attempt to Mrs. Ziegler and we’ll feature as many as we can in next week’s blog.

There will be prizes for the best origami animals overall, and a prize for the form who have made the most animals, so get folding!
