FIRST YEAR TUTOR TEAM WORK STATION TIPS
Mr Hill has enjoyed settling in to working from home. Here are his top three tips for a successful working from home routine:
- Stay hydrated and eat healthily (can you spot his orange!)
- Keep your work space organised and uncluttered
- Make a list of each subject at the start of each day, and tick off the subject once the work has been completed and submitted
GETTING TO KNOW YOU
1J have sent in some questions to ask Mr Hill this week:
What’s your favourite subject apart from Geography?
I’ve always loved History, and it was certainly my second favourite subject at school. I have kept my interest in the subject, and this year have read books about the First Crusade, and about Late Victorian Britain. There’s so many different areas to be interested in! I am tempted to read a book about the Anglo-Saxons next.
When a child what did you want to be?
I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, but I was also keen to see what other jobs were like, which is why I went to work for a big company after university, although I always thought I would end up teaching after a few years doing other things.
What’s your favourite game?
I really enjoy board games, and my favourite is currently Carcassonne – it’s a fun game of strategy that’s quite easy to learn – maybe give it a go?
When did you join Hampton School?
I’ve been at Hampton since 2014.
Do you have any pets?
I don’t have any pets at the moment, but I am hoping I will soon be able to get a dog, as I’ve always had cocker spaniels at home growing up.
When did you start rowing?
I started rowing at school in the Third Year (U14s). I started out in the U14G team, but kept improving through the years, and was in the 2nd VIII when I left school. At university I won at Henley and represented Great Britain, so my advice to any aspiring athlete is to keep learning, working hard and persevering. I never thought when I was in the U14G team I would ever be as good at the sport as I became, but with hard work you can always achieve more than you think.
What’s your favourite Geography Trip?
I’ve been fortunate to go on some great trips at Hampton. I always enjoy going to Iceland and seeing the Northern Lights. The Sixth Form trips to Uganda and Costa Rica I’ve been on have been absolutely superb and would have to be my favourites. If you have the opportunity to go on either the Iceland or Sixth Form trips then do take them – you will end up with memories you never forget. I would also say that I really enjoyed going on the Choir Trip to Barcelona two years ago. It was great to spend some time seeing how fantastic our Hampton musicians are.
Who do you support in the Cambridge v Oxford boat race?
As an alumni of Durham, I would say Durham! But as they don’t compete in that race, I would say that I usually support Oxford, but it was quite an arbitrary pick when I first started watching it, once you start supporting one team though, you have to stick with them.
DID YOU KNOW…?
For the first time in almost 30 years people can clearly see the Himalayas due to India’s lockdown clearing air pollution.
