WELCOME TO THE THIRD YEAR BLOG!

Well done for making it to the end of another busy week here at Hampton. Lessons are now in full swing and the Third Year are settling into the weekly routine. On Monday the boys were in the whole school assembly. We heard about the Adventure Society trip to Malawi and the Hampton Safe Haven project. Mr Wilkinson spoke about the superstition surrounding the unlucky urban legend of Friday 13th. The School Captain delivered the weekly notices and Ms Message welcomed the new language assistants, as well as awarding Maths awards and the sports results. On Thursday during Form Time the Third Year had a chance to reflect on their successes from the Teambuilding Day and complete a self-review of the term so far.

Third Year Special Mentions

The following boys did an excellent job helping with the first Visitors’ Morning of the year: James P and Rex B.

As part of Thursday’s 13+ Taster Afternoon, the following Hamptonians were involved in a Q&A session with the Prep School pupils and their parents:

James P

Charlie P

Freddie M

Freddie B

They were asked a variety of questions, from their thoughts on School food to the challenges they faced when they joined. All questions were answered with consideration and maturity – the boys should be very proud of themselves. Only two weeks in, and they are already proving themselves to be excellent ambassadors for the School.

Genocide Projects

Josh F, Felix L and Oscar K are conducting original historical research into a ‘Kinderhostel’ that was set up in Twickenham in 1939. In particular, they are trying to find out about a boy who they know fled the Nazi regime, arrived in Britain in 1939 and went to St Mary’s – the primary school that Josh, Felix and Oscar all attended. They are researching by consulting archives, databases and writing to historians. Over the next few weeks they hope to find out as much as they can, writing up and publishing their research…and would love to be able to trace the boy and his family wherever in the world they are!

U14 SPORTS REPORTS

Football

Goalkeeper Conrad K reports on the U14A match against Bede’s School:

The U14A team played a league match against Bede’s on Saturday taking the lead through a strike from Jamie W before Bede’s levelled the game. Defensive work from Toby N and new Third Year Josh P made sure the game stayed at 1-1 going into the break. Throughout the first half Hampton looked most likely to score, hitting the bar three times. Going into the second half they were confident until two quick goals from Bede’s turned the game into 3-1. Oscar E and Zain S impressed throughout the second half as Hampton pushed for a goal. Finally one came from a corner that hit the post before Hayden C slotted it home. It was too little too late though as Hampton suffered a 3-2 defeat.

Jack S reports on the U14C footballer’s performance in their first match of the new School year:

After a long bus ride, Hampton were ready to kick off. We were hoping to get off to a good start for the season but it wasn’t to be. Hampton had some good early possession and some good chances to score that we didn’t convert into goals. The opposition had set up for counter attacking football which they did to good effect catching Hampton twice in the first half, one a breakaway goal and the second forcing the Hampton defence to concede a penalty that Bede’s dispatched. Unfortunately, the second half was much the same with Hampton having most of the possession pushing for the breakthrough to get back into the game but were caught twice again on the break which sealed the 4-0 win for Bede’s. There were some spells of very good football for Hampton throughout the match which we can build on for the rest of season and some good early performances all over the pitch. Good effort from all!

The U14D footballer’s also started their season at Bede’s School, Leo H reports on their victory:

On Saturday, the U14D team travelled to Bede’s School for the first match of the football season. The game was split into two halves of 30 minutes, the first half score was 3-1 to Hampton after two goals from Leo H and one goal from Meher B. At half time, the focus was not to become arrogant during the second half and use the wings more often to create space. After a great second half performance the game ended 10-2, with Leo and Meher both completing hat-tricks, a goal each for Ayoub K and Ben A, and two own goals from Bede’s. Special mentions must go to Matthew I for some excellent runs down the left wing, Leo S for some great play and assists down right wing, and the defensive back line with Ben H in goal. Overall a fantastic start to the season and many thanks to Mr Boardman for coaching us to a great win.
