Welcome to the Third Year Blog!

It all started on 3 September 2020, and 34 blogs, 43 weeks, 303 days and tens of thousands of lateral flow tests later, the Third Year at Hampton is complete! What a year – you can watch the highlights below in an end of year video superbly produced by our very our Jack Shephard!

As Porky Pig from Looney Tunes fame was well known for saying… “That’s all folks!”

Heads of Year Message

Well done everyone for completing an action packed and successful term!

Thanks to Jack Shephard (3J) and Dr Colvine for all their efforts filming and editing the End of Year Highlights Video, which you can all enjoy in this blog.

Congratulations to all the Third Year Prize winners. These boys will all receive an e-voucher in recognition of their achievement. It is impossible for us to recognise every achievement or worthy act with a prize, and we are well aware how many boys deserve recognition across a wide range of academic and co-curricular achievements throughout the year. Please rest assured that these achievements are recognised and valued – even if a prize is not forthcoming on this occasion.

The First Hampton School Giving Day, coinciding with Founders Day, was a great success – raising over £200,000 towards providing free places at Hampton School. Third Year boys did their bit by donating to the food bank and scoring plenty of penalties on Tuesday lunchtime.

This is the final Third Year blog of the School Year, so we would like to take this opportunity to thank our excellent team of Form Tutors for their hard-work, commitment and dedication to the boys in their care. We know they enjoy looking after the boys’ pastoral needs and welfare, but we are so grateful that they do this with such empathy, professionalism, good humour and a sense of perspective.

We would also like to thank our two Assistant Heads of Year – Mr Moore and Mr Neville. They have both worked tirelessly to deliver the standards of pastoral care that we pride ourselves on at Hampton.

Boys – we have enjoyed being your Heads of Year and we wish you well for Fourth Year and beyond. We see you as an energetic, intelligent and talented group of young men. You have been supportive of one another in challenging circumstances this year. Perhaps the biggest complement of all; you have been excellent company throughout.

Well done everyone, we hope you have a very enjoyable and relaxing summer holiday!

Best wishes

Miss Smith & Mr Rigby

Third Year Inter-Form Quiz

3E beat 3C in a final for the ages! 280 vs 260 was the score with 3E’s finest, Rishi V, claiming a whopping 7 starters. We asked him how they did it.

On Tuesday, we had the long-awaited Inter-Form quiz final. As fans from both Forms involved came in large numbers, the pressure was on to see who would prevail. 3E raced out to an early lead but their adversaries 3C would claw that back and then started to go to work on making a lead of themselves, although it didn’t last for long. At the halfway point the teams were even, 130 apiece in a neck and neck encounter. But then 3E went on a magnificent run getting question after question correct. 3C did keep the chase on and prevented 3E from ever truly pulling away but as time ran out the match ended. 3E had won!

Commiserations to 3C, a real battling performance, and well done to 3E – what a win!

J14 Rowing

The rowers competed against St George’s College last Saturday in their final fixture of the season. With our large squad of 53 boys, we were able to field an impressive six boats against the four from St George’s. Overall it was a very successful day for Hampton winning most of the races. It was great to see parents back on the towpath shouting encouragement as the races went by as well.

Each crew raced three times:

1st match Hampton A vs St Geroge’s A.

Race 1 Hampton won by a small margin after both crews indulged in some interesting steering…

Race 2 St George’s won by 2 lengths – one of the Hampton boys ‘caught a crab’ – which is when the oar gets stuck in the water.

Race 3 Hampton won by 3 lengths. This crew was really impressive, combining strength with style.

2nd match We raced our B and C crews against St George’s B.

Race 1 Hampton C won followed by St George’s B and then Hampton B. Some boat race style clashing was going on between our B crew and St George’s and the C crew took full advantage!

Race 2 Hampton B won then St George’s then Hampton C.

Race 3 Hampton B won then St George’s then Hampton C. Yet more unruly steering in this race.

3rd match We raced our D and E crews against St George’s C (a girls crew).

Race 1 Hampton D won a length (17 meters)  ahead of St George’s who were only a canvas (about 3 meters) ahead of Hampton E. Very close and exciting race.

Race 2 St George’s and Hampton E decided to take the scenic route and visit the bushes on the river bank so Hampton D comfortably rowed over to win.

Race 3 Hampton D won followed by St George’s and then Hampton E.

4th match We raced our F crew against St George’s D.

Race 1 St George’s won by ½ length.

Race 2 We turned it around and won by ½ length.

Race 3 St George’s won by ½ length. Very happy that our F crew is about the same speed as St George’s D crew!

Enjoy your summer break, whatever you get up to, and all the very best for a successful Fourth Year! Well done, boys!
