On Monday the whole School gathered for the Remembrance assembly. This was led by Mr Worrallo and included a touching piece from the school choir “Voices of Lions”.
During PSHE on Thursday the Third year boys continued their new topic on “oracy”. The focus this week was how to debate effectively and persuasively, using a range of communication techniques and skills.

U14 Sports Reports:
Rugby:
Our first match after half term was a cup game, our opponents – UCS. It was great to have extra players from our Bs. They were a welcome addition to the team. In the first half we were asleep and had no linespeed. UCS capitalised on this and broke our line to score twice. Finally we woke up and began to play more attacking rugby so at halftime we were in the lead. Gus C (3A) made a great defensive effort, when he forced a knock on from a try saving tackle. During the second half we dominated the game and didn’t allow UCS to put any more points on the board. Joshua A (3J) made many line breaks and lots of strong carries however he couldn’t finish his run off. He deserves MOTM for his performance.
On the following Saturday we had another match against a strong opposition, Wellington. They were well drilled and very organised in defence making it hard to break the line. In the first half the weather conditions suited our play conditions, resulting in a try from Gus C (3A). We played the first half well and managed to score 8 points to their 10. Over half time the weather conditions changed and we could no longer play flowing attacking rugby, as we were used to, due to the risk of knock ons. Wellington then proceeded to pick and go from the rucks making ground. By the end of the match Wellington were leading 25-8. Jamie B (3B) acted very well under pressure from Wellington to make decisions for that reason he got MOTM.
Cameron H (3J)
Football:
On Saturday, the U14 C team played in a football fixture against a strong Charterhouse side. Despite the horrific weather conditions and having no substitutes the team fought hard and earned a 4-0 victory. Some key players were Kyan (3E) who scored twice and Cameron B-T (3F) who was key in most attacks on the right-wing. Overall, it was a good well deserved win and the boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Stanley C (3G).

Department question:
This week’s question comes from the History Department:
If you think you know, take your answer to Miss Smith or Mr Rigby in the Third Year Office for the chance of winning merits…
Given we are commemorating the end of WWI, it seems appropriate to have a History question in this week’s blog:
Why are John Parr and George Ellison significant?
