The week started with a Monday morning Third Year assembly hosted by the lead School counsellor. The Third Years listened intently to Mr Uccelli speak about the different aspects of his role at Hampton and how to access the School Counselling service.

Thursday’s PSHE session involved boys watching an online video about the impact of social media and their digital footprint.

Monday evening was the Third Year Pastoral Form- this was an excellent opportunity for all the parents to meet and speak with the Third Year Tutor team, as well as, a presentation from the School counsellor and a talk from Digital Awareness UK.

Messages from the Third Year Pastoral Team:

Now that staffing, timings and room allocations have been sorted, the brand new 2018-2019 Third Year Activities Timetable is out!

The spreadsheet can be found on https://intranet.hamptonschool.org.uk/activity-lists and yellow posters will shortly be going up in all Form Rooms and the Third Year Notice Board.

Boys, you are strongly encouraged to actively participate in the School’s extensive co-curricular programme. This will enable you to get the most out of your time at Hampton, and it helps you to really enjoy your time here and meet like-minded peers. The Tutor Team’s advice is to choose two activities, one that is of interest anyway and one that is completely new to you. Don’t forget, if you try out something new and don’t like it, just choose a different activity – you don’t sign up for life!

Third Year Special Mentions:

Congratulations to Luis J (3C) who achieved an A* in his Spanish GCSE.

Congratulations to Nicholas M (3F) on receiving 10 merits – he is the first boy in the year group to reach 10 merits and earn an edible prize.

U14 Sports Reports:

Rugby:

The U14 As travelled down to Tonbridge School for a new triangular tournament with St John’s Leatherhead and Tonbridge School. Some of the highlights include: Daniel H (3A) showing real commitment to the breakdown, and scored a well-deserved try against St John’s. Nico L (3J) scored a superb solo try from inside his own 22 metre line, and defended resolutely in the back field.

The U14 Bs also travelled down to Tonbridge School for the new triangular tournament. The Bs lost a close match (10-0) to a physically superior St John’s side. Attacking play and general structure was much improved from the previous week, and it was encouraging to see lots of players making a significant impact. Unfortunately we then had to play a fresh and powerful Tonbridge team and could not match their pace and skill, losing 7 tries to 0. The team’s spirit and willingness for a physical confrontation never flagged, and it was a positive day of rugby.

Special mentions go to: Alex H (3A) worked hard all round the pitch and made some fantastic covering tackles. Josh M-H (3B) showed tremendous leadership and kept up his continuous positive chat to his forwards and fly-half. Hal L lead the team’s tackling by fearless example.

Football:

After a delayed start to the U14 B match Hampton v Bede’s finally kicked off.

As we spread the play wide to the furthest edges of the pitch possible, we managed to find multiple ways through the Bede’s defence due to the space created by making the pitch as wide as possible. This flurry of breakthroughs eventually led us to end the game with an 8-1 win at full time. Goals were scored by Adam H, Isaac F and Zach B while the defence battled the opposition’s attack force only conceding one goal, to a fast breakaway by the Bede’s striker. In goal Adam D managed to successfully fend away multiple long shot attempts to secure our second win of the season.

Department question:

This week’s question comes from the RS & Philosophy Department:

If you think you know, take your answer to Miss Smith or Mr Rigby in the Third Year Office for the chance of winning merits…

A man is looking at a portrait. Someone asks him, “whose picture are you looking at?” He replied: “brothers and sisters I have none, but this man’s father is my father’s son.” Whose picture was the man looking at?
