WELCOME TO THE FIRST YEAR BLOG!
Another week done and with the sun making an appearance, it is finally beginning to feel like the summer term is starting properly! In a few weeks the First Years will be doing their assessments and this week in Tutor Period, the Forms discussed the importance of trying some revision techniques to develop their skills and learn something new. Even more important is the balance between revision and time off – you should be able to keep doing your normal clubs, sports and music commitments and work your revision around this. And if you’re finding yourself getting worried about it, please speak to your Form Mentors, Tutors or Heads of Year!
Also a timely reminder that Project Explore is due in a few weeks’ time! Some fantastic projects have already been submitted but there is still plenty of time to explore your local area, visit a site and do a project on it. The upcoming bank holiday weekend might be an excellent time to do this! Mr Hill and Mrs Peattie explain all details in this video:
Chick Update
The Biology Department have welcomed some very special guests this week, with the arrival of ten chicks which we’ve watched hatch over the last few days. Some of our First Years were lucky enough to meet the new arrivals:
EASTER HOLIDAY
In this long Easter break me and my friends went to Lanzarote home to one of the Canary Islands. Firstly, I travelled to Gatwick by car along with my friends. After the long but exciting trip to the airport. My most detested part of the travelling had arrived: the check in. Surprisingly, it only took 20 minutes to check in and pass security. We had one hour until boarding started. I explored the airport’s shops and had lots of snacks. Once I boarded the plane I sat down in my chair and relaxed for 10 minutes. Then I was in the air for about 5 hours because the flight was delayed.
After a long journey in the plane, I could now enjoy the lovely calming weather. In Lanzarote it was 24°C, in contrast to the 2°C in England. I was amazed to see how large my hotel was. It was massive. When I entered my room, which was large, I found out that I also had a balcony which was the same size of my room! First, we had a scrumptious lunch. I was shocked about how good the food was. Next, I went swimming in the heated pool which had slides and all sorts of stuff.

Form Charity Bake Sale
Don’t miss this term’s Form Charity Bake Sale to help raise funds for our three charity partners: Jamal Edwards Self-Belief Trust, the Woodland Trust, and Children at Risk in Asia.
Cakes and other baked treats will be available for pupils to buy at morning break in the Cloisters, costing 50p or £1 per item. Head to the Cloisters at break time on Thursday 2 May, there promises to be lots of tasty treats on sale!
So First Years, let’s get baking!
Talk!
Don’t miss the first Talk! of the summer term and the unique opportunity to hear from two specialists from the world of humanitarian aid and disasters, Professor Ian Davis OH (1955) and David Peppiatt OH (1987). Listen to their experiences and get a first-hand account of what it is like to be an aid worker on the front line and the challenges they face trying to ensure aid reaches civilians devastated by war or natural disasters. Come along to the Hammond Theatre on Wednesday 1 May at 1pm.
Find out more here.
TUTEE OF THE WEEK
Every week, the First Year Tutor team nominate a boy who they have been particularly impressed with, and Mr Hill and Mrs Peattie provide him with a football to use on the fields for the week!
This week’s tutee of the week is Thomas C (1P) for his kindness and always helping others out in all areas of school life – well done Thomas!
SPECIAL SHOUT OUTS!
We love to hear about what you have been getting up to outside of school and to celebrate your successes in the First Year Blog! Please do send any information about any of your achievements through to Mr Fuldner (d.fuldner@hamptonschool.org.uk).
THE HAMPTON HUNT
Each week I will set you a challenge where you need to find out a random fact, number or indeed anything else around the School – you won’t be able to do this from home! Points for the interform competition will be awarded to the Form with the most correct entries over the course of the term! You have until the end of Wednesday to complete the challenge; you will find out in next week’s blog if you’re correct, and you will be given a merit by your Form Tutor the following Monday. And who knows – you might get to know the School better in the process!
Last week’s challenge was:
How many steps do you have to walk up from the ground floor to get to the classrooms in the RS Department?
The correct answer is 40!
Well done to Dante A, Alex Z, Francisco C I, Ocean Y, Ethan W and Charles B.
This week’s challenge:
How many different sports can you find on the benches in the Physics quad?
