Welcome to the First Year Blog!
It has been lovely to see all the First Years back in such high spirits and eager to get started after the Christmas break! The boys started their first week with a talk on role models, and followed this up with a session in which they were invited to choose and discuss their own role models who inspire them. It was fascinating to hear about the wide range of people who the boys chose, and some thought-provoking discussions were had about how they could apply their role model’s characteristics to their own life and goals. This Friday is a typically busy sporting day, with all our rugby teams playing a block fixtures against Warwick School, and our U12B football team playing in the next round of their ESFA cup against Grey Court School. Best of luck, boys!
PROJECT EXPLORE LAUNCHES
This week marks the launch of Project EXPLORE – an exciting creative project encouraging you to explore your local area! Mr Hill, Mrs Peattie and your Form Tutors will be providing more details on this next week, alongside a letter your parents will have received, but for now, here is a sneak peak of what the project entails:
CLUB OF THE WEEK IS BACK!
Josh M-J (1J) tells us about Maths Club this week:
Maths Club is a great way to increase your knowledge and understanding of Maths or to just simply learn something new. It is on 2 days every week (Tuesday and Thursday). On Tuesday, it starts at 12:35 in Room 5 and on Thursday it starts at 1:10 in 3E. You can come as you please and will be given fun Maths questions to answer on OneNote. I like Maths club because it is very flexible: you can go once every few weeks and it shows you that Maths can be fun.
Alex L (1J) sat down with Harrison G (also 1J), to discuss what goes on in Art Club (Tuesdays, 12:35-1:30):
Which types of people do you recommend this club to most?
People who want to take part in art competitions and enjoy sitting drawing.
What have you recently been doing in art club?
There was a recent competition and lately I have enjoyed drawing on my iPad on doodle buddy.
Do you find art club enjoyable – what part do you particularly like about it?
Art Club is fun and relaxing. My favourite part about it is thinking up new ideas to draw.
Do people that come need to be very good at art or can everybody come no matter how high their level of skill is?
Everyone can go to art club no matter their level and draw something from any standard.
The Writers’ Room
The Writers’ Room opened its doors again on Wednesday 12 January. Come along to Room 53 in the English Department at 12.45pm. All are welcome, any questions, please contact Mrs McLusky in the English department.
Chick Update
The Biology Department have welcomed some very special guests this week, with the arrival of ten eggs which we’ve watched hatch over the last few days. Take a look at some of our First Year boys meeting the chicks:
Cheep, cheep!
TUTEE OF THE WEEK
Each week, Tutors in the First Year team nominate a boy who they have been particularly impressed with and Mr Hill and Mrs Peattie will provide the boy with a football to use on the 3G for the week!
This week’s Tutee of the Week is Danny P (1L). Danny’s helpful and cheerful attitude in lessons has really impressed his teachers. Well done, Danny!
SPECIAL SHOUT OUTS!
Before the holidays, Alex M (1B) competed in and won the Kings Tennis Centre U16 tournament, despite competing well above his own age range. A fantastic achievement, Alex – well done!
In musical news, Alex M (1J) achieved a Merit in his ABRSM Grade 5 violin exam, with an almost perfect score in his sight reading. Theo Tang (1F) also excelled in his Music exams, passing his Grade 5 Music Theory, and achieving a merit in his Grade 6 piano. Excellent work, boys!
We love to hear about what you have been getting up to outside of school. Please do send any information about any of your achievements through to Mrs Ziegler (h.ziegler@hamptonschool.org.uk).
