Welcome to the Third Year Blog!
Heads of Year Message
Well done everyone for reaching the end of an extraordinary term at the end of an action packed school year. We hope you enjoy the Third Year highlights of the year montage in this blog – it is a testament to the range of activities and events you have taken part in this year, both inside the classroom and beyond.
Despite the challenges since March, you have kept going incredibly well in difficult circumstances. This has enabled you to make significant progress with your learning, so you can look forward with optimism to September and the start of your GCSE courses. Whilst you deserve a lot of credit for your efforts and the resilience you have shown throughout this term, we hope that you will spare a moment to think about and thank the people who have helped to make this possible – your families (who have had to play a significant role in supporting your guided home learning), your subject teachers and your form tutors.
It was a pleasure to see so many of you in person on the school site or via MS Teams on Wednesday. We know that Third Year form tutors really enjoyed catching up with you all. It was a good opportunity to reflect on the unusual experiences of this term and to look ahead to the summer break and the Fourth Year. We hope you found the meetings useful and enjoyed the chance to visit the school site.
Grade Cards (final reminder)
Given the unusual circumstances this term, end of term grade cards will be issued in an amended format. Third Years would normally receive four grades at the end of Summer Term: Exam grade, Term Attainment grade, Classwork effort and Homework effort. This term, however, you will receive a single Term Attainment grade (1-4) in each subject which will incorporate the result of the end of year assessment, as well as attainment measured through remote tasks and classwork completed this term. You will also receive a single Effort Grade (1-4) in each subject which will incorporate the usual Homework and Classwork Effort Grades.
We have been repeatedly impressed with the way boys across the Third Year have responded so positively, creatively and with generosity of spirit to the unexpected challenges presented this term.
Well done and thank you for your superb efforts throughout this year. We have been so pleased to witness your endeavours and achievements this year, and we have really enjoyed your company.
We wish you well for Fourth Year and look forward to seeing you back in school next term.
Enjoy the well-deserved summer holiday!
Best wishes
Miss Smith & Mr Rigby
Highlights of the Year
What a busy year it’s been! Let’s take a look back at some of the things you got up to during 2019-20:
1557 Challenge
Well done to all the Third Years who took part in the 1557 Challenge. We were inundated with photos and videos – it was brilliant to see so many Third Years taking part in this challenge! Here’s a flavour of some of the ingenious ways you found to raise money for our four Form Charity partners:
3A climbed a total of 1557 steps up and down their stairs – well done boys and teachers! Exhausting!
Fantastic work by Josh H who lifted a massive 1557kg to raise funds for our four Form Charities.
Well done to everyone who took part. Fantastic effort boys!
Wellbeing Bingo
Well done to all those Third Years who took part in the Wellbeing Bingo on Wednesday.
Third Years were challenged to find some calm and peace of mind this week, encouraged to get into a positive mood, and do something to help their family and all those around them.
The Challenge was to complete at least one of each category on the Bingo card:
Take a look at some of the things you got up to:
Physics Power Station
The Third Years have been completing some fantastic Model Power Stations in their Physics lessons. I know that Mrs Reilly and the rest of the Physics Department have been really impressed with these!
Here is James A’s model. Well done James!
Daniel and Zak, Aaran, Oscar and Theo have also been busy producing a wide variety of models. Fantastic work boys, well done!
Food Bank
Saganan has completed his lockdown challenge and donated much needed items to his local food bank.
Lion Print 2020
Well done to all the Third Years who contributed to this year’s Lion Print 2020, Hampton’s annual Creative Writing and Arts magazine.
