The Third Year have had a cold but action-packed week! It all started with Assembly on Monday morning. The boys heard an insightful and thought-provoking talk from Mr Lawrence on the Holocaust, which was then followed by the Headmaster congratulating all those boys who participated in the recent MUN conference. Well done to the Third Year boys involved with this! To finish assembly, we heard about the sports results from the previous weekend.

During Thursday PSHE session the Third Year continued looking into future job and career prospects. The boys started preparing individual presentations, which they will deliver to their peers next week.

Sports Report

Rugby:

Looking to improve on our frustrating game against Warwick last week, Hampton U14A’s travelled down to Campion. We started the game well and took advantage of the slope, keeping Campion pinned down in their own twenty-two, until we eventually scored a try. We used the slope and scored more tries before half time. Throughout the match we supported line breaks and executed them, our rucking was persistent which allowed us to play flowing rugby. In the second half, we allowed Campion to get one try back but we didn’t fault and continued to score. Henry L picked up three tries around the breakdown and quick tap penalties. However, Henry D was MOTM as he was brilliant at breaking off the scrum, his line speed and constant pressure deserves him of MOTM. The final score ended 32-5 to Hampton.

Cameron H

The U14B team played their best rugby for two months as they lost 31-15 to a physical Campion side. Tries were scored by wing Greg M in his first ever game for Hampton, by captain Steve L (his first of the season) and by fly-half Calum W. Second row Theo JP also impressed with strong carrying throughout. In some periods of the game Hampton were in total control, but they conceded two soft tries before half time through missed tackles and couldn’t quite catch up.

Football:

Match report U14c vs Abingdon

Hoping to continue our unbeaten run, we arrived at Abingdon. This time, our opponent would be their U14B team; with only eleven players, we took to the pitch hoping to emerge as the victorious side. In the first half we were playing uphill, and after a few minutes Abingdon edged ahead, they followed this up shortly with another goal. Their streak continued, and at half time the score line read 5-0 to Abingdon. With low morale, and little hope of victory, we aimed to win the second half, and thought we might have more luck, as now we were attacking downhill. In the opening, we seemed to play with more structure and shape, this resulted in an early goal. As play resumed, we were hungry to bag another, and further our brief success. A long, hard battle was fought during the remaining twenty minutes, and saw both sides adding to their goal tallies; unfortunately including Abingdon having two penalties, however; only one found the back of the net. As the end drew closer, all eleven of us were growing tired, and growing more desperate. The final result of this fixture saw our unbeaten streak broken, and a 7 – 2 loss.
