Welcome to the First Year Blog!
The first full week of this term is complete, and it will be quite a while until we have another five-day week! This week’s PSHE lessons were all about revision techniques and wellbeing during revision, so this should give everyone plenty of ideas on how to revise for the upcoming exams – please continue to ask your Form Tutors and subject teachers for advice if you have any questions! Next week, of course, starts with a bank holiday and many pupils will travel up to Stoke on Thursday to watch the First XI play in the ESFA final, so plenty of excitement coming up!
Charity Bake Sale
Henry S (1J) tells us all about this week’s Charity Bake Sale:
On Monday there a bake sale which the Second Years kindly hosted. All the cakes were one pound or 50 pence and all the money they raised went to our Form Charities. So many people went to the cloisters to try the tasty cakes. I ate an amazing cookie which was one pound and my friends all enjoyed the event too. It was a wonderful experience for everybody.
Project Explore
The deadline for Project Explore is coming up very soon! This is your last weekend to get out and about and visit a local site, and the upcoming bank holiday weekend is the perfect chance to do something different! Projects need to be submitted to Mr Hill and Mrs Peattie by Tuesday 2 May.
CLIMBING
Last week we started our summer sports. This included tennis, cricket, athletics and climbing. I chose climbing as I prefer it and, as we all know, it is the best summer sport. I have been doing climbing since the spring term in Climbing Club, but this week was exciting as we were finally allowed to use the overhang and tilted section. There wasn’t much formatting in the climbing sports period so me and my friend – Shishir – tried to get up to the overhang on a titled section and tried almost every combination of movements. We tried it for an hour, but we weren’t able to do it, so we decided to focus our attention on the normal walls instead. Specifically seeing how fast we could get up the black wall, this is the hardest wall on the climbing wall. It was very fun, and I recommend climbing to anyone who wants to try it!

JUNIOR SCHOOLs’ Music WORKSHOP
The Junior Schools’ Music Workshop was an excellent experience. This event consisted of pupils from Hampton and from local primary schools (over 130!) combining to form one big orchestra. The orchestra played a wide variety of pieces, while the choir sang many songs. I felt proud to have encouraged the possible next generation of cellists. The broad range of musical instruments and talent made it very enjoyable for me, and hopefully for the audience. Overall, it was great to be included in such a large musical event.

TUTEE OF THE WEEK
Every week, the First Year Tutor team nominate a boy who they have been particularly impressed with, and Mr Hill and Mrs Peattie provide him with a football to use on the fields for the week!
This week’s tutee of the week is Archie S (1F) as Ms Czumaj, Mrs Havord, Mr Hill and Mrs Peattie have been impressed with his positivity, willingness to get involved, and he is always supportive of his classmates and enthusiastic – well done, Archie!
SPECIAL SHOUT OUTS
Last Saturday, Sebastian W (1B) ran in the Mini London Marathon Championship race. He qualified for the Richmond U13 team by doing a fast Bushy Park Parkrun a few weeks ago! Well done for qualifying to represent your borough and finishing the race, Sebastian!
We love to hear about what you have been getting up to outside of school and to celebrate your successes in the First Year Blog! Please do send any information about any of your achievements through to Mr Fuldner (d.fuldner@hamptonschool.org.uk).
