Welcome to the First Year Blog!
WHAT A FANTASTIC FIRST FULL WEEK BACK…
It has been a busy first full week for our First Years as they are getting the hang of navigating their way around the School buildings, using their lockers effectively and enjoying getting to know one another over lunch and playing football on the 3G. It has been brilliant to hear what you have been getting up to in lessons and on the sports field, the First Year Media Reps bring us the full report below!
Next week is set to be another busy week with the year group enjoying a Team Building morning and setting off for Avon Tyrrell. We are looking forward to all the activities and hope the good weather forecast for the weekend continues into next week! In the meantime, have a restful weekend to prepare for the action packed week ahead.
Tutee of the Week
Each week Mrs Peattie and Mr Hill select a Tutee of the Week from the nominations sent in by the First Year Form Tutors. This person is selected for their all-round contribution to Hampton life and for displaying a great attitude. Congratulations to this week’s first winner of the award: Freddie T. Mrs Whitwam was impressed with the hard working attitude that Freddie has already displayed in class, and his overall positive approach to his first few weeks as a Hamptonian.
MEET OUR MEDIA REPS
Budding journalists in the First Year have been busy writing from the front lines about Hampton life this week, say hello to Aadi K, Neel M and Lucas TS!
FIRST WEEK REPORTS
Aadi K reports:
TINGGGGG! The alarm went off. I was ready for it. New school.
It all started when we arrived in front of the magnificent Hampton building. We headed to our form rooms where the teacher and everybody gave a short introduction of themselves. The highlight of the day for me must’ve been the “Treasure Hunt”. This was finding rooms across the school in groups of three, using our school maps to help us. Also, the food was divine, I had chicken skewers with rice. I can still taste it! On the second day we had the opportunity to meet some of our teachers, they were all really friendly. The third day we had blended into the school fantastically. We were introduced to a full day of Hampton life. Our mentors are fantastic, they are very pleasant and helpful. Overall, I have very much enjoyed a couple of very successful days at Hampton.
SPORTs RE-STARTING
Neel M reports:
As the opening day at Hampton drew to a close, sport returned to the pitches as football and rugby players took part in intra-year matches either on the 3G or on the field.
It will take time to completely reopen sports at Hampton however thanks to an immense effort from the sports department, the first sports clubs will commence next Friday with basketball and volleyball.
AVON TYRRELL EXCITEMENT
Lucas TS reports:
The First Year are very excited for next week, when we will be doing our team building activity and heading for Avon Tyrrell. The team building activity will take place during the morning at School and then the following day we will travel to Avon Tyrrell. In both, pupils will be doing team-based activities where they have to work together and will also make new friends. It is going to be great fun!
SPECIAL SHOUT OUTS!
We love to hear about what you have been getting up to outside of School. Please do send any information about any of your achievements through to Mrs Halford v.halford@hamptonschool.org.uk.
It has been wonderful to hear about Leander KB’s achievements over the summer, and goodness he has been busy! He has completed his Gold Youth National Navigation Award, setting up his own mini enterprise called the Potting Pro all whilst working towards his grade 3 electric guitar and piano! During lockdown Leander set up a stall to sell plants he had potted and grown, building a great reputation locally and becoming a major competitor for the local plant shops!
Well done Leander, what a busy and exciting summer!
EXCELLENT HISTORY LOCAL LIVES PROJECTS!
Over the summer our First Years were challenged to visit local areas and write a response. The History Department were very impressed with their responses and the places they visited, special mentions must go to the following boys:
Boris D, Sebastian W, Agalyan S, Daniel T, Joshua R, Leander KB, Brandon C, Alessandro C, Maxwell G, Raif D and Arie J.
Well done everyone!
ROALD DAHL DAY!
Did you know every year on Roald Dahl’s birthday, 13 September, there is a national celebration of Roald Dahl and his stories. This year the Unicorn Theatre has put together a dramatic (and disgusting!) reading of The Twits. Check it out using the link below:

WEEKLY REMINDERS
Whilst mobile phones can be taken to Avon Tyrrell next week the trip is for boys to get to know each other so mobile phones will be turned off for the duration of the trip, including the coach journey.
Top tip 1: We would encourage boys to bring card games with them to play on the coach or if there is any spare time at Avon Tyrrell and please bring a snack to have in the afternoon!
Top tip 2: We would strongly recommend wearing a watch for the Team Building morning if you have one, you will be doing some timed activities where one would come in handy!
Have a great weekend!
