Welcome to the Third Year Blog!
The Third Years have continued to work and play hard this week, as we come to the end of a long and cold January. On Monday the Third Year were in assembly and heard talks on the Holocaust Memorial Day from the Genocide Awareness Group and the Chinese New Year from Mr Nicholson. Ms Message delivered the results of the Sixth Form Physics Olympiad and the sports results from last weekend. During PSHE on Thursday the boys delivered their careers presentations to the rest of their Forms.
Here are some other highlights and notices from the week:

Litter Picking Club
As part of the School’s aim to help with environmental issues we will be starting a litter picking club which will be open to anyone who is interested and keen to do their part to help.
Initially we will be looking to start locally, picking litter from local roads surrounding the school area. You may have seen, on the Eco board above the wooden recycling unit near DT, how much litter Ms Rommer personally collected in only 10 minutes on one previous outing last academic year. This shows how much even one person’s input can help!
We have compiled a short survey to see how many of you (pupils and staff) would be interested in taking part, which days would be most suitable for everyone and how regularly we should meet. If there is enough interest we could also look at doing trips further afield to local parks, rivers, canals and beaches.
The survey will be open until 7 February and is available on Firefly. We would greatly appreciate if you could show your interest by completing the survey.

U14 Sport
Football
Ed J (3C) reports on the U4C match against Abingdon.
After a wining streak we were fired up and ready to go, especially after last week’s game was cancelled. We were playing Abingdon B team so we knew it could be a tough game. In the first half we were on the attack with Ben R running down the line, putting a ball into the middle. Cameron J pounced on it, tapping it in for us to go 1-0 ahead. We then lost our focus slightly and gave Abingdon many chances with them going 2-1 up by half time. After a half time chat we all felt motivated. With pressure, Abingdon were letting us in their half and we were starting to gain possession, getting shots on target but none went in. Abingdon then counter-attacked and scored for them to go 3-1 up. None of us let our heads drop, we still wanted a win. With the new tactics set for high pressure we scored, Cameron J again with a shot deflecting off their player into the back of the net. Everyone was confident that we could bring this back. Within a couple of minutes a new player to the team, Hal L scored from a crossed ball and tapped in. It was now 3-3 and we wanted another goal. We had many chances from corners throughout the match, the most memorable of which being in the first half when Ben R attempted a bicycle kick hitting the cross bar, also another cross bar hit by Hal L in the last few minutes. It was a tough and energetic game and we played well, with a outstanding mention to James D winning Man of the Match for tackling everything that came his way.
