The Junior Musical, Bugsy Malone, had a week of performances and was a huge success! Highlights from our Second Year include a dramatic malfunctioning splurge gun death from Mika R (2J) playing Knuckles, and a surprising (and impressive) worm dance from Benny R (2F).

This is my last blog for a little while, as I pass the reigns over to the lovely Miss Holt. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to the Blog this year – I have absolutely loved getting to read your stories and share in your successes.

TUTOR QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Each week the pupils decide on a question to ask all the Second Year form tutors.

This week’s question comes to us from Dante A (2P):

Would you rather:

  1. Only study your favourite subject for the rest of the year  – 2W, 2L, Miss Tiller
  2. Continue studying a range of different subjects – Miss Winstock, Mr Worrall, Miss Mattinson

2H was a complete 50/50!

Have you ever had a burning question you’ve always wanted to ask your form tutors?! If so, then please send your suggestions for a future Tutor Question Time to .

Backstage at Bugsy Malone

This week, I had the job of follow spotting during Bugsy Malone. This is simply where you have a light which you fade in and follow people with. When you are done following the person you process to fade out.

The actual show was amazing, with lots of fantastic music, and even a live band on stage. The acting was phenomenal and there was a lot of splurge; particularly in the last showing. Overall, it was a great experience, and I look forward to doing things like this in the future.

Lesson of the Week

My favourite subject this week without a doubt has been our Design & Engineering lesson on a Wednesday morning. This term, we are making a mechanical toy that incorporates some kind of moving motion; it could be a dog wagging its tail or a crocodile snapping its mouth. We are using a combination of manual tools and electronic tools. For example, we have been using bradawls and a scroll saw which we used to carve out the shape of our model. For me, I’m doing a dog that wags his tail. So far, I have cut out the dog and started making the tail. Design & Engineering has been a blast and I can’t wait for my next lesson!

Flight simulator

On Saturday, I arrived at the University of West London for one thing – the Boeing 737 flight simulator in the building, owned by Flightpad. The simulator uses a real-life scale replica of a 737 Next-Generation cockpit, with working systems, which link to realistic screens, showing what the view would be like in a real aeroplane in the same place. It was amazing. I had a brilliant instructor, who corrected any mistakes in my technique and taught me more about some of the intricacies of flying, as he was using it as an opportunity to simultaneously gain simulator experience before applying to Ryanair to be a pilot, which I thought was really cool. I believe that it helped me along my path, hopefully to also fly aeroplanes commercially although in my case for British Airways. I would really recommend it to everyone, even if you are not super interested in aeroplanes, purely because of how fun all of it is and the comprehensiveness of the instructors.

Green Energy

The term ‘green energy’ is being thrown around in several conversations, but what does it actually mean? Green energy is energy that can be produced using a method, and from a source, that causes no harm to the natural environment. There are many advantages that come along with green energy; consisting of: no carbon emissions/greenhouse gases, self-sufficiency and sustainability. In addition to contributing to the protection of our surroundings, using green electricity and green gas can also help you make savings on bills. Despite green energy’s help in reducing global warming and contribution to many other environmental factors, it generates toxic substances that may contaminate water resources. Furthermore, renewable energy installations may disrupt land use and wildlife habitats. Overall, green energy is the future and potentially the key to make our world the cleanest and greenest yet!

Last week’s baby was… Mr Fuldner, Head of First Year! This week’s baby is also from outside of the Second Year team, who could it be?!
