Welcome to the First Year Blog!
This week saw the first of the assessments for our First Years, with pupils sitting their Music assessments during regular lessons. There has, however, been lots to take everyone’s minds off their assessments, with several Tennis and Cricket fixtures taking place, and rehearsals for the upcoming Lower School Play and Rock Concert in full swing. The First Years also had a fascinating introduction to Mindfulness in Assembly this week. The boys were introduced to several tools and practices, and were able to try out some of these in the session.
Next week, the First Years will sit their internal assessments. These may undoubtedly feel a daunting prospect, but they are nothing to get stressed or worried about, and everyone usually feels much better once the first paper is done! There is early respite for First Year Hamptonians on Monday afternoon, with the much anticipated Inter Form Athletics taking place in the afternoon. Hopefully everyone will enjoy some time outside and the opportunity for plenty of teamwork and healthy competition!

GERMAN SUCCESS
Three of our First Year Germanists have had recent success in the Oxford German Olympiad. The boys competed in the Y7 to 9 category, and were challenged to draw or paint a picture of creatures that live in and by the Rhine, with a short text description in German. Competing in a large field, and against older pupils, Ryan W, Nileeth G and Leo G (1P) were awarded ‘Highly Commended’. An excellent achievement – well done, boys!
BASKETBALL CLUB
Josh M-J (1J) interviews Ashton C (also 1J) about what goes on in Basketball Club:
Where and when is it?
Basketball Club is in Friday lunchtimes in the Sports Hall.
What do you do?
In Basketball Club, we come in and begin to warm up. We then play matches in teams or work on our game by practising dribbling, shooting or passing.
Why do you like it?
I like it because it gives me the opportunity to play for the school and have fun with my friends.
Do you have a chance to compete against other schools?
Yes, we have a chance to compete against other schools a few times a term with a team which is selected from Basketball Club.
Hampton Golf Competition
Hampton is organising a golf competition for various schools in the borough and we would like to enter some boys from the First, Second, Third and Fourth Year if possible. The competition will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday 21 June, at Fulwell Golf Club.
If you are a golfer and would like to put yourself forward, please email s.may@hamptonschool.org.uk, or find Mrs May in the German office. You would need to own your own clubs, be familiar with golf scoring and etiquette, and have experience on a full-length golf course. We probably can’t take everyone who is interested, but please feel free to contact Mrs May for info.
TUTEE OF THE WEEK
Each week, Tutors in the First Year team nominate a boy who they have been particularly impressed with and Mr Hill and Mrs Peattie will provide the boy with a football to use on the 3G for the week!
This week’s Tutee of the Week is Rufus L (1P). Rufus’s excellent behaviour and kind and cheerful attitude, have really impressed his Form Tutor. Well done, Rufus!
SPECIAL SHOUT OUTS!
We love to hear about what you have been getting up to outside of school. Please do send any information about any of your achievements through to Mrs Ziegler (h.ziegler@hamptonschool.org.uk).
