Welcome to the First Year Blog!
Well done to all our First Years on completing their first year at Hampton! There was lots of fun to be had in the final week, with the First Year Fun Run kicking off the week, and lots of other fun activities – 1H spent some of their final Tutor time participating in a paper hat making competition – Mrs Whitwam reports that the winners were Vasily U for originality, Oliver K for wearability and Adam S for flair!
The boys have also had plenty of opportunities to reflect on their successes over the year, with many attending Lower School Prizegiving on Tuesday, and the whole year attending a special assembly on Thursday, where they watched musical and dramatic performance by their peers, and received congratulations from Mr Hill and Mrs Peattie. To echo their words, the First Years of 2021-22 have been a fantastic group of boys: enthusiastic, gifted and supportive of their peers; they thoroughly deserve their summer break. To finish this year, I will once again echo the words of Mr Hill when he addressed the boys on Thursday; as the boys enter the Second Year, aim to be the kind of boy that you would want to meet as a new First Year, and the kind of boy that you would want by your side in times of difficulty. Congratulations once again on completing your First Year – enjoy your holidays!

Biology Club
This week in Biology Club, the boys enjoyed making models of DNA from different sweets. There were some amazing creations, although they didn’t last for long!
FOUNDERS’ DAY
On Tuesday, the whole School gathered in the Main Hall and Hammond Theatre for our Founders’ Day celebration. The boys watched performances by the School Choir and Chamber Choir, and watched a fascinating documentary on the School’s founders, put together by the History, Archives & Archaeology Club.
Congratulations to our First Year choral performers, with particular congratulations to Dylan L (1B) for his excellent presentation in the Founders’ Day video and on-stage during the Assembly!
FIRST YEAR FUN RUN
Monday saw a welcome return of the First Year Fun Run, which took place on the School fields. The boys tackled a number of obstacles, including hurdles, rolling, skipping and even a ‘header’ zone with footballs! The boys really enjoyed themselves, and raised £334 for form charity. Congratulations to 1F and 1W, who jointly won the Team Spirit award!
SUMMER CONCERT
Many of our young musicians performed in the Summer Concert, which took place on Wednesday. The evening was packed with excellent performances, both choral and instrumental; the boys have been putting in a lot of work behind the scenes, so well done to all performers!
PRIZEGIVING
This year’s Lower School Evening took place on Tuesday in the Hammond Theatre. It was a particularly welcome occasion to be held in person after a three-year hiatus due to Covid, and thankfully the weather co-operated for the reception afterwards! Many congratulations to all our winners and performers on the night, details can be found in the programme linked here.
