The Hammond Theatre played host to a wonderful chamber music concert last Friday, with Dylen Singah playing Haydn’s Piano Trio No.39 in G Major on the cello. As always, the standard of performance was exceptional, and many congratulations to Dylen and his fellow musicians for a fantastic evening’s entertainment.

The First Year has been flexing its democratic muscle this week, with both Year Council and School Council taking place. Kristoffer Olofsson, Henry Ward, Thomas Wykes, Edward Finnett, Joe Barnes, Joseph Cowley, Jake Murray, Louis Middleton, Max Braszkowski, Neo Sukhraj-Hammerl, Conor Bleach and Sam Berthon all represented their Forms with great maturity. A number of pressing issues were debating, including the structural integrity (or lack thereof) of the yellow diary, the possibility of transforming the 3G into an American Football pitch, and the absence of an Architecture Club as part of the co-curricular programme. However, the boys voted to submit the idea of replacing all textbooks with ebooks to School Council, and Edward and Neo were elected to represent the Year group.  Well done to all the boys who participated in this important process.

It has been a busy sporting week, with a football multifixture against Latymer, in which all our teams played against a team one squad higher. The U12Bs came up against a strong Latymer A side, and lost 6-0, although goalkeeper Zak Dyer made plenty of good saves. There was better news for the U12Cs, who won 1-0 thanks to a Luke Walsh strike.  Sam Walker, Joel Arulpragasam and Younes Tahir were on target for the U12Ds in a thrilling 3-3 draw, whilst a Benedict Pearce hat-trick, two goals for Alessandro Russell and Max Braszkowski and one for Matthew Morey saw the U12Es home in an 8-1 victory. Goals from Vathshan Ramanakanthan and Rohan Raj were not quite enough to save the U12Fs from a 4-2 defeat.  On Saturday, the U12As beat Sutton Grammar 4-2, with goals from Xander Wright, Alex Dinan, Billy Hutchings and Luke PaskinEasan Gunarajah, Finlo Cowley, Arton Shala, Fergus MacEacharn and an own goal secured a 5-0 win for the U12Bs, and my sources close to the U12Cs tell me that Leon Griffiths, Sam Colvine, Luke Walsh and Max (I’m not sure which Max, but well done to you) scored in a 4-2 win. And intensive sleuthing work has revealed that the mystery scorers for the U12As in last week’s game against Cardinal Vaughan included Alex Dinan, Xander Wright and Luke Paskin.

The U12B Rugby team had a fantastic 15-10 win over Harrodian A team, with two tries for Sam Skinner and one for Thomas Simm enough to overcome a stiff challenge from an opposition inspired by loan signing Max Broughton. Max helped Harrodian out when they were short of players, and did such a good job that he scored a try against us! Steady, Max! Our badminton players enjoyed a great win over Howard of Effingham School, with Luke Michels, Jai Saha, Ethan Knight, Sam Davidson, Alex Bush and Ben Settle all impressing. And well done to Olly Coles, who has represented the School as part of the U13 Table Tennis team.

Congratulations to the merit certificate recipients: Thomas Ketel, Ben Settle and Vathshan Ramanakanthan (20 merits); Thomas Norman (30 merits); Thomas Wykes and Roman Feron Clark (40 merits); and Jonah Blake, James Emery and Luke Michels (50 merits); and Shane Bowden (60 merits).

And finally, let me wish the boys the best of luck for Cooking Week next week. One hundred and fifty three families across south-west London and Surrey look forward to the next few days with a mixture of eager anticipation, relief at emancipation from the kitchen, and probably a fair degree of trepidation.  Rest assured that, to date, Cooking Week has passed without record of conflagrations, poisonings or malnutrition.  First Year Tutors’ favourite recipes are available on the Parent Portal, should inspiration be needed.  Pre-heat those ovens, boys, and remember, I am very happy to taste-test cakes and cookies.
