A mountain of rocky road, fairy cakes and slices of sponge cake piled onto the desks in the form rooms this Thursday during form period! As we near the end of Cooking week, and as the First Year team wind down from a week of auditioning for Channel 4’s Great British Bake-Off line-up of judges we can reflect on what I hope has been an enjoyable and pleasurable experience for the boys. Besides the plethora of sweet treats that have found their way into school, I know that many of the boys have been producing culinary masterpieces at home which would have John Torode and Gregg Wallace gasping with delight. There are far too many boys to mention here, but thank you to everybody who sent in pictures of their efforts!
I know that Miss Bedford is looking forward to putting together the First Year cook book, so please do send her any recipes that you would like to include. Congratulations to all the boys who had a go in the kitchen this week – whether you were complete novices or grizzled veterans of the hob, I hope that you enjoyed the experience and picked up some useful skills.
Well done to Sam S, whose continued excellent attitude to all elements of school life means he has been named Tutee of the Week – well done Sam!
There is not much School sport to report on this week, as the snow rather played havoc with the fixtures last weekend. However, can I congratulate Rex B on his Gold medal winning performance in the Warsaw Internationa Artistic Gymnastics competition? Well done Rex, and good luck with your future gymnastics exploits!
Congratulations should also be extended to the School’s creative writing competition finalists. Well done Zac D, Tomas E, James G, William C, Vishal S, Matt V, Ishaan D, Thomas B and Giles M for their excellent entries, and good luck in the final round!
Continuing on a literary theme, a first year team of Tomas E, Will C, Tom M, Joe M, Joe W and Oscar K took part in the Kingston Inter Borough Literary Quiz at Tiffin Boys School on Thursday. After achieving maximum scores on the three books they’d read (A Skinful of Shadows by Frances Hardinge, The Explorer by Katherine Rundell and Sweetfreak by Sophie Mckenzie), the boys faced some fiendish picture and general book knowledge questions. Alas, the buzzer round proved our nemesis, however, a very creditable third place finish is a fantastic reward for the boys, who’ve worked very hard on Tuesday lunchtimes at Lit Quiz Club. Well done boys!
Well that seems to round up yet another action packed week in First Year life. I hope the boys are refreshed after a week without homework, and are ready for the challenges posed by the final few weeks of the Easter Term. Well done so far boys, keep up the good work.
