Welcome to the Second Year Blog!
This week the U13A team continued their successful run in ESFA and we look forward to hearing how they get on in their next round! In PSHE on Monday, the boys talked about what it means to be an active bystander, and learnt four strategies that can be used to challenge certain behaviour in different scenarios.

This week we started a new topic called Energy Resources. We have been learning about renewable and non-renewable energy resources. For example, renewable energy resources are items that will never run out, e.g. solar panels and wind turbines, and non-renewable energy resources are coal. This is an interesting topic and is also very important, and I am excited to see how this topic unfolds. By Aditya (2B)
HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY
This Thursday marked Holocaust Memorial Day, the day for everyone to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution. Many people from countries in Europe co-operated with the Nazis, simply because they feared for their lives. The genocide happened because Adolf Hitler, the leader of the Nazi party, wanted to wipe out Jews and other minorities from Europe, commonly known as the Final Solution. The Allies received reports of the horrifying persecution that Jews faced in Europe, yet it was inconceivable what was really going on in the work camps – upon arrival at the camp, many, especially the elderly and young, were selected to be murdered in the gas chambers whilst others were worked to death. Only when the Allies liberated the camps did the world fully realise the extent of the crime that had taken place.
Holocaust Memorial Day is on 27 January because this was the day when the Russians liberated Auschwitz from the Nazis. This is where 1.1 million lost their lives. A wide range of people came here- ranging from Jews, Poles, Romani and POWs, but most of the deaths were Jewish. This is also a Memorial Day for other genocides as well that have happened now and in the past. Over 70% of all Jews in Europe were killed in the Holocaust yet there is much persecution against them today. We should always try to prevent future discrimination from happening. FOOTBALL
Once again, the U13As have progressed into the next round of ESFA. Hampton faced Kingsdale Foundation School in the round of 16. Hampton took the win with a 1-0 victory with the only goal coming from Hampton’s star striker Rio. The game was very tight and could have gone either way however the U13As stood up to the task and completed the job and will now face Torquay Boys Grammar School on Wednesday 2 February for the quarter-final of the ESFA campaign. If you would like to follow the U13A’s cup run you can visit the HSC website here for more match reports by Omer O and Alex W By Omer (2F)
The U13B, C, D, and E Team were busy as usual on Saturday, participating in a tough block fixture against Dulwich College. There was a lack of goalkeepers on display for the various Hampton sides, with a D team keeper playing for the Bs. Nevertheless, a determined Hampton unit managed a comfortable 4-0 win, though unfortunately this was to be the only win of the day, with the Cs, Ds and Es not quite managing to secure a victory for Hampton against a strong and accomplished Dulwich College. Despite this, it was a very enjoyable morning for everyone involved and for the teams that lost will provide a vital learning curve and help them improve in future. By Alex (2F)
NEWS ROUND UP
By Akshat (2J)
This week in the world there has been plenty of sport happening. In African Cup of Nations, there was an amazing story as the Comoros team had unexpectedly made it through to the knockout round and were due to play home favourites Cameroon in the last 16. The problem was though that they had run out of fit goalkeepers and AFCON rules state that you cannot call up a backup player. So, the teams left back Chakur Alhadur had to make a strange appearance in goal for the game, and although the end result was 2-1 to Cameroon, he can be proud of his performance.
In stranger news, two police officers in the Los Angeles Police Department have been fired after ignoring calls for a robbery as they were playing Pokémon Go on their device. The digital in car video system (TDICVS) caught them blocking a call multiple times in order to keep at their game.
