Welcome to the Fourth Year Blog!
The arrival of the sunshine has coincided with an exciting, busy, and enjoyable start to the summer term for our Fourth Years with the U15As success in the Elgin Cup Final, a performance to be very proud of, whilst the football memories just kept on coming with the ESFA Final trip soon after. In this half term’s edition, we hear from Dexter, Monty, Arun and William on everything from basketball triumphs to science breakthroughs!
Interform Basketball
The final week of half term saw the penultimate hotly-contested Interform event of the year, with Mr Ellsworth organising a superb lunchtime of basketball as the Fourth Years basked (pardon the pun) in the delightful May sunshine. Each form played two short matches out on the School courts, with 4B emerging victorious after a series of excellent team performances. There was a fantastic turnout from the whole year group, with many coming down simply to cheer on their friends!
Well done to Form 4B on their fantastic victory!
Meet Miss Noble
Our intrepid interviewers, George B and Zaidan A, caught up with Assistant Head of Fourth Year, Miss Noble, to ask her a series of quickfire questions:
Favourite food?
No hesitation here, that would have to be a chicken madras and definitely with a keema naan.
Did you always want to be a teacher?
Funnily enough, it wasn’t something I originally thought I would do. It was my love for languages which led me to it, and I’ve never looked back! I feel very lucky to have the chance to teach my subject every day.
Best Hampton story?
That would have to be on the Wengen (Switzerland) trip, when I had to be airlifted from the mountain (all the more memorable given that I’m not keen on flying).
Elgin Cup SUCCESS
Dexter B (4B) tells us all about the fantastic achievement of the U15A footballers, as they triumphed in the Elgin Cup:
Hampton’s U15A side faced a very strong Aldenham team in the Elgin League Final on the 2 May. Aldenham had a strong start to the match, grabbing an early goal in the first 10 minutes. Hampton continued to battle through the first half and limited Aldenham to very few chances and were able to create a few of their own. However, at half time the score stood 1-0 to Aldenham. 20 minutes into the second half, Alex A put away a good finish from Sam M’s cross. With the sides level at the end of normal time, extra time was next. Hampton scored their second of the day as Alex A latched onto a misplaced back pass from the opposition’s centre back. He took the ball around the keeper to make it 2-1. Hampton then battled extremely hard through the second half of extra time and were able to celebrate at full time, lifting the trophy.
Brilliant way to end the season! Alex A
A memorable day out!
Monty S (4A) gives us a flavour of the superb victory for our First XI in the U18 ESFA Cup final, on what was a wonderful whole-School occasion:
On 4 May 700 Hampton pupils and staff hopped onto multiple coaches to travel North to Stoke City’s stadium for the U18 ESFA final vs Shrewsbury School. The Hampton boys were roaring on the coaches all the way to the immaculate and awe-inspiring Stoke City F.C. stadium. Both schools had prepared chants to sing throughout the cagey 90 minutes.
The game began with Hampton dominating and very early on they found the opener which sent the Hampton boys erupting into a frenzy of chants and cheers. Shrewsbury responded well, until fan favourite Fifth Year Josh K began to warm up and was then subbed on. Josh had an instant impact on the game, scoring to make it 2-0 Hampton. Not only were the boys at the stadium celebrating, but so too were all of those at back at School tuning into the livestream.
Hampton and Shrewsbury’s chants echoed around the stadium, giving each player on the pitch a boost of confidence and desire. It seemed as if Hampton would maintain a comfortable lead, until the Shrewsbury centre back scored a screamer from around 35 yards out which no keeper would be saving! However, this proved no obstacle for Hampton as they would score a superbly well-worked goal to secure the win 3-1. The team put in a fantastic effortThank you very much to the teachers and the team for producing a fantastic outing and a huge ESFA win!
It made me feel a part of the School and was a good win! Arthur C
Take a look at the highlights of the day:
CREST Award
Arun D (4D) and William S (4F) introduce us to the CREST Award:
CREST is the British Science Association’s scheme for student-led project work in the STEM subjects. Together, we collaborated on a project based on investigating and researching the optimal way to recover after exercise. This included us needing to plan and execute our own practical investigation, which consisted of us completing multiple 2km runs, while each time adding different recovery hindrances, and then taking in results and making an analytic conclusion and evaluation. It was therefore very rewarding to be given Gold awards (which are usually applied for by age 16+), when we only intended to achieve a Silver award. Although the whole project took up around 30 hours to conduct over the course of our Summer and Christmas holidays last year, we found that it was a fun and useful experience, and we would highly recommend it to anyone that may be interested.
Coronation celebration
The “Great” British weather didn’t dampen spirits as Hamptonians enjoyed a special coronation-themed lunch to mark the recent coronation of King Charles III. Pupils celebrated with ice creams, a penalty shoot-out and plenty of games, including Hook the King Duck, Play your Cards Right, Guess how many Lions in the Jar and Quoits.
Fourth Year Hamptonians ascended the throne for a royal portrait as they took part in a regal photo booth. They also feasted on a wonderful fruit and cream sponge cake made especially for the lunch by our catering staff.
