WELCOME TO THE FIRST YEAR BLOG!

Today’s Form Charity Quiz was another fantastic opportunity to raise money for charity while having fun, and having briefly seen the pupils quizzing away, it looked like an incredibly positive experience for everyone! The sunny weather has also helped attendance to ‘3G Club’ and the First Years certainly picked a lovely day for their sports afternoon today! Revision is also ongoing, but make sure to enjoy the amazing weather this weekend, and revision can also always be done outside!

CRICKET

Despite having a huge summer sports selection, cricket at Hampton has been the sport that has stood out for me. I have played cricket for six years and have enjoyed every moment of the game. Getting to play in the Hampton team has been a real novelty and something I will not take for granted. The cricket facilities and coaching here at Hampton are great!

The history of cricket began in 1611 in South East England, across Sussex and Kent. In 1877 the first Test Match took place when a touring England team played in Australia against the two Australian XI teams. “The Ashes” was the name given after Australia had claimed victory over England at the home grounds in The Oval on the 29 August 1882. The Sporting Times later made a comment about the situation commenting “The body will be cremated, and the ashes taken to Australia.” This gave the iconic event the name of “The Ashes.” However, the Australia – England rivalry was not the first set of cricket games played. In 1844 USA played Canada in New York eventually ending in a Canadian victory by 23 runs. Later in June 1975 England hosted the first ODI cricket match which was won by West Indies. Currently, Australia has won six world cups, India, and West Indies two each, and England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have won one each.

From 1611 to 2024 cricket has thrived as a sport and welcomed many new players, such as me. I am looking forward to progressing my cricket career at Hampton and, hopefully, win the league and upcoming fixtures with my team.

Come on Hampton!

COMING UP…

Although this half term isn’t over just yet, a look ahead at what’s coming up next half term! There are several trips to look forward to, including a Geography trip for the forms that didn’t go in October and RS and Biology trips for everyone! There will also be some final Interform events, including the quiz and rowing, as well as an activity afternoon joint with LEH. Lots of fun activities coming up before the year is up, so look forward to all of this and more!

TUTEE OF THE WEEK

Every week, the First Year Tutor team nominate a boy who they have been particularly impressed with, and Mr Hill and Mrs Peattie provide him with a football to use on the fields for the week!

This week’s tutee of the week is Theo P (1H) for always being kind and supportive to his peers – well done Theo!

SPECIAL SHOUT OUTS!

We love to hear about what you have been getting up to outside of school and to celebrate your successes in the First Year Blog! Please do send any information about any of your achievements through to Mr Fuldner ().

THE HAMPTON HUNT

Each week I will set you a challenge where you need to find out a random fact, number or indeed anything else around the School – you won’t be able to do this from home! Points for the interform competition will be awarded to the Form with the most correct entries over the course of the term! You have until the end of Wednesday to complete the challenge; you will find out in next week’s blog if you’re correct, and you will be given a merit by your Form Tutor the following Monday. And who knows – you might get to know the School better in the process!

Last week’s challenge was:

Hampton’s new climbing wall is now in full use with climbing being a sports option for Friday afternoon in the summer term! But where is the climbing wall?

The climbing wall is hidden behind the sports pavilion and cricket nets – well done to those of you who found it!
