The Third Year have been very busy this week with lessons recommencing and lots of presentations. On Monday morning during Form time the boys started their next PSHE topic on Enterprises. They worked in groups to create business and marketing plans for their chosen business opportunities. On Thursday morning Third Years were off timetable Periods one to five listening to a variety of informative talks from external speakers for their PSHE Risk Morning. These proved to be very interesting and some useful discussions were had on challenges that may affect some Hampton boys, including personal safety.

Sports Reports

Tennis

Last Tuesday, despite the difficult weather conditions, Hampton headed over to Eton to take part in the annual Eton Pairs Tennis Tournament. Although it is officially an U15 tournament, some of our U14 tennis players stepped up to gain invaluable experience against older opposition. Dominik H, Theo M-C and Ollie D played superbly alongside boys from the Fourth Year in two sides of four. Dominik played win the Hampton first four and acquitted himself admirably and, alongside Rohan V, helped us to crucial high-scoring wins against Charterhouse, New Hall and Wellington to help the team through to the semi-finals of the second plate competition. Although playing in the Hampton second four, Theo and Ollie, would play some superbly aggressive tennis to help the team to turn the ranking on their heads and reach the semi-finals of the main plate competition. Theo and Ollie’s most impressive results were a stunning 6-2 win against Abingdon and, even more encouragingly for the future, 4-3 versus a very handy Eton second four. Overall, it was a superb effort and these boys can look forward to taking another crack at the tournament as U15s themselves next year (hopefully in more favourable conditions!).

Cricket

The U14A team got back to winning ways last week, with two wins in two days of excellent cricket.

On the Friday, they played Heathlands School in the Quarter final of the County Cup. Winning the toss and electing to bowl, Hampton bowled out the opposition for 48 runs, with Ollie L taking another five wicket haul. Matthew M and Kyan S knocked off the runs with the minimal of fuss.

The next day saw the boys take on St Pauls in a much tougher game. On a difficult batting surface, Hampton could only muster 94 runs in 30 overs, which could have been even less were it not for some vital contributions from Tetsuro, Harley and Chand, getting 35 runs between them.

Having to defend another low total, Hampton got off to the best possible start with the ball, reducing St Paul’s to 20-3 from 13 overs. Zach G and William K were key. Both opened the bowling and conceded just 8 runs from the first 11 overs. William in particular bowled 6 consecutive maiden overs to finish with figures of 1 wicket for 0 runs. Chand D and Ollie L, the other two members of the spin king triumvirate took 5 wickets between them to bowl out St Paul’s for 70, and secure a seventh win in 10 games.

Next up this week is the County Cup semi final, and then a tough fixture away at KCS. Keep going guys!

Have a great weekend!
