Welcome to the First Year Blog!
This term is flying by, it’s hard to believe we are two weeks away from finishing our second term at Hampton!
COOKERY WEEK
This week Hampton has had a School wide focus on healthy eating and food and our First Years have got stuck in with Cooking Week. It has been lovely to see the photographs flying in, showing all of our boys cooking meals at home and we are sure the First Years and Tutors are looking forward to tasting some of the treats in our tea parties next Monday.
Yesterday the First Year boys enjoyed a talk from nutritionists on making “super snacks” and looking at healthy alternatives to snack bars. Maybe it will give them some inspiration for the tasty treats that they will bring in on Monday.
Take a look at some of the highlights from the nutrition talk:
COOK BOOK
Every year the Hampton First Years produce a fantastic cookery book showing the boys’ culinary delights across the week which is then sold for Form Charity. It would be wonderful if you can keep your recipes, permission slips and photographs coming in to Mr Hill, ideally before the Easter break!
LATIN READING COMPETITION
Some of our First Years, Elliot and Xavier, Yuchen and Zaid, headed to Charterhouse School to take part in a Latin reading competition where they had to read out dialogues in Latin. Well done to Xavier and Elliot for receiving Highly Commended certificates!
Yuchen reports:
We had to read out a passage that they gave us, it was quite fun. Although we didn’t win, we all enjoyed it and we did quite well.
Well done boys!
SPORTS
Our U12B Rugby team powered through the tough weather and had a terrific win against Harrodian School last weekend.
This week saw our U12 Basketball team play their away games in Leatherhead in the Surrey Elite 8 competition. Alex A reports:
We played two games against two opposing schools. One was competitively contested and presented us with a bit more of a challenge. We are looking forward to our Surrey final 4 on Tuesday.
Good luck to our U12A to E Football teams this weekend against Whitgift and Claremont Fan Court School and to our U12B Rugby team playing against Ibstock Place.
Creative Writing Masterclass
The annual Creative Writing Awards finalists’ masterclasses takes place next Thursday. The author Sara Grant is coming in to work with the finalists on their creative writing; she will also award prizes to two of the writers in each age group. A big well done to Raphael T, Avi B, Sam T, Ben R, Jason W, Alasdair M and Trivikram P – we look forward to hearing how you get on next week!
Don’t forget to wash your hands
One of the Hampton nurses has recorded a very important video telling us all why we need to wash our hands and the best way to do it. Take a look here:
