Welcome to the First Year Blog!
It has been a busy week for First Year Hamptonians, with No Limits Week taking place every lunchtime. Everyone has had the chance to try lots of new clubs, as well as still managing to find time to enjoy the 3G. Today’s Team Colours Day is a reminder that we have an exciting event coming up with the unusually timed 2022 World Cup due to start this weekend. The Mufti Day was also an opportunity for pupils to raise money for our Form Charity partners.
Hopefully the timing of next week’s homework holiday will allow many of you to watch the football matches taking place after School. With plenty of fixtures at Hampton, the first match of the World Cup on Sunday and an exciting Adventure Society trip to Bentley Copse, I do hope you all enjoy the weekend ahead!
NO LIMITS WEEK
This week was No Limits Week which meant we had the chance to try some new clubs that we had not done before. This thrilling experience consisted of everyone finding different clubs and seeing what you enjoyed. All Hamptonians took the encouragement of stepping outside our comfort zone and trying some of the many diverse activities. These clubs involved Chemistry, Table Tennis, Art, Debating and much more. I proceeded to go to Chemistry Club which was an amazing event. We made slime out of different substances, and although it did not work for everybody, was very entertaining. I am grateful to have had this chance and am looking forward to trying more of the unique clubs in the future. By Louis C (1J)
No Limits Week has been a wonderful opportunity to try out some new clubs and have lots of fun. The clubs I went to were Geography and Junior Debating. This week we were debating about whether the monarchy should be abolished. We had to argue for the monarchy’s abolishment, and it was a blast. Both sides found wonderful statistics and facts that argued well for their points. In the end we lost but nonetheless, it was extremely enjoyable, and I will definitely come again next week. Geography Club was just as much fun, doing quizzes in preparation for the World Wide Quiz. In the first section, we got 10 out of 10 due to my superb knowledge of cities, but on the second round, we unfortunately scored a 2/10 as we were no experts on physical geography. Nevertheless, I will be seen going every single week from now onwards. As you can see No Limits Week has helped me and everyone else try out so many clubs. By Shishir V (1J)
This week was No Limits Week, and it was a great opportunity for us to try many different clubs that you don’t usually go to. On Monday, I went to Cubing Club, an exciting new addition to the Hampton co-curricular clubs. I had only recently become interested in cubing and it was a chance to meet others across the First Year with the same interest as me. I raced many people there and overall; it was a fun experience. On Thursday I also went to Chess Club, which was like Cubing Club in a way. I got to play many people in the school, and it was a fun and enjoyable club to do. There were plenty of Hamptonians to play and I really enjoyed it. No Limits Week was overall, a good experience and I am glad that it occurs every year. By Rohan K (1J)
Lego Architecture is a relaxing experience to all that participate. This club opens up your imagination towards the creative world. It inspires many in multiple ways, whether you’re there for a calming sensation or want to compete with friends. It is open to any creative builds and ideas and can help you bring them to life. Whether you’re looking to build a building, a vehicle or any other project that motivates you, this club offers it. By Zac C (1H)
From sketching your favourite animal to building a clay model, this club has it. Art Club is a calm, enjoyable club that is a worthwhile club to attend to on a weekly basis. Taking place on Monday, this is a nice way to start your week. By Zac C (1H)

U12B ESFA ROUND TWO
We’re keeping up to date with the achievements of the U12B team in their National Cup competition. Seb and George write about last Friday’s exciting game:
As we arrived, I could sense the nervousness in our team as well as being filled with adrenaline. We were playing Coombe Boys in the second round of the ESFA Cup competition. A loss and we were out. A win was needed. We warmed up with various drills for about half an hour then suddenly, it was kickoff. A quick goal from a counter-attack gave us a 1-0 lead. They had quite a few chances but were brilliantly denied by our keeper. Soon after, we had scored again after a quick run from Leo, our striker. A great ball through from Isaac gave Leo an amazing second goal. Right in the bottom corner. The keeper was nowhere near it. After a few more spectacular saves by the goalkeeper, the ref blew his whistle. Half time. A quick debrief from Mr Burke and then a team talk, we were energised and ready for the second half. We scored again from an unfortunate own goal from their defender. 4-0. They then got one back at us from a counter-attack to make it 4-1. Both teams were still determined to score again. Even more amazing saves from our keeper. They soon had a lot of possession, they were taking every shot they could, headers from corners were missed. A few minutes later, the referee blew for full-time. All relieved that the final score was 4–1. We were ecstatic, we were through to the next round of the ESFA Cup. By Seb W (1B) and George S (1H)
TEAM COLOURS DAY
It was great to see so many different sports teams represented in School today – lots of England shirts across all sports, some questionable choices of Premier League teams and some niche clubs including one from the second tier of the Mexican football pyramid! It was great to see such a variety of teams being supported going into the World Cup!
TUTEE OF THE WEEK
Every week, the First Year Tutor team nominate a boy who they have been particularly impressed with, and Mr Hill and Mrs Peattie provide him with a football to use on the fields for the week!
This week’s tutee of the week is Armaan V (1L) for always being really helpful in and around the classroom, which Mrs Minchin, Mr Hill and Mrs Peattie have been very impressed with.
THE 39 STEPS
Some of our dramatists will be treading the Hammond Theatre boards in our first production of the year The 39 Steps.
Richard Hannay, a perfect gentleman and dashing hero, meets a mysterious woman at a London theatre, who implores him to take her home with him. She soon confesses to being a spy, hot on the trail of a dangerous organisation. That same night she gets stabbed in his flat and Hannay is thrown into a mad chase to escape both the police and the mysterious spy organisation, ‘The 39 Steps’, whilst trying to solve the riddle behind her murder. This wonderfully inventive and gripping comedy thriller takes you on a breath-taking and hilarious journey from London to the Scottish Highlands and back. Can Hannay evade capture and clear his name of murder before it’s too late? Will he fall in love along the way? And what exactly are ‘The 39 Steps’?
Tickets are now on sale here for what promises to be a fantastic production. Don’t miss out!
