TUTOR QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Each week the pupils decide on a question to ask all the Second Year Form Tutors. This week…
What costume are you most likely to wear on Halloween?
- Vampire
- Skeleton – Mr Worrall
- Zombie
- Witch/Wizard – Miss Tiller, Miss Mattinson
- Other (please specify) – Mrs Owen wants to be a ghost!
2L had a lot of great suggestions but landed on Duolingo Bird as the top choice!
2W had a range of answers, but the most popular was Subway Surfer!
2B said an inflatable dinosaur…!
Have you ever had a burning question you’ve always wanted to ask your form tutors?! If so, then please send your suggestions for next week’s Tutor Question Time to b.tiller@hamptonschool.org.uk.
Meet Mr Thompson!
Our weekly interviews are a great opportunity for you to find found out a little bit more about your Tutors! So, thank you to Reuben N and Kahana M (2W) who interviewed Mr Thompson, Music Teacher and 2W’s Form Tutor!
What is your favourite instrument and why?
My favourite instrument is the piano because it allows you to do so much in music and helps to understand how music actually works.
What is the naughtiest thing you did at school?
I once wrote a letter to my English teacher on 1 April, saying that I had plagiarised a recent piece of work. I had hoped she would take my hints and laugh it off as an April Fools prank (I signed it off “I feel like such a fool”). Sadly, she did not see the joke, and pulled me in front of the Head of English and it all got very serious. A prank that definitely went wrong.
What is your favourite part of the school and why?
My favourite part of the school is the school choir because anyone can come along create lovely music.
If you had one billion pounds, what you do with it?
I would buy a house that isn’t super big, think about using the rest of it in a way to help the most people and try and speak to people who would be able to invest that money in the best way.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
It would be to know how someone’s feeling because it gives you an ability to help people and avoid conflict.
Badminton Tournament
This week, our U14 badminton team faced off against Dulwich College in the second round of the Magazine Cup, following a fantastic win against Whitgift in the first round. In my singles match, I managed to secure a decisive victory, winning 21-9 meaning we had a lead on points going into the doubles. For the doubles match, my partner and I worked well together, clinching another win at 21-11. Overall, it was a thrilling day of competition, and I am proud of our team’s performance as we aim to advance further in the tournament!

Ipswich Choir Tour
Over the weekend, I went with His Majesty’s Chapel Royal Choir at Hampton Court Palace on a trip to Ipswich, as part of the 550th anniversary of the birth of Cardinal Thomas Wolsey. We got on the coach at 8am on Saturday and dropped our bags off at a local boarding school, before heading to Aldeburgh for a concert. My favourite piece was the seventh movement in Vivaldi’s Gloria. We also had fish and chips, and hot chocolate when we came back to the school we were staying at.
On Sunday we woke up at 7:30am for breakfast, and I had a lovely cup of tea! We then left for St. Mary-le-Tower, the civic and town church of Ipswich. We had our normal Eucharist service; then we headed to Storico Pizza restaurant and played football with the other choir. We then had an evensong service commemorating the efforts of Wolsey550, the charity who had begun the festival. Finally, we departed Ipswich and went back to Hampton Court, though not before stopping at a service station to grab some sweets! Overall, I had a wonderful time and would like to do something similar again.

42nd Street!
On Tuesday, I had the privilege of seeing my first play, featuring Hampton students, 42nd Street, held at LEH. It was a brilliantly fun show from beginning to end with dazzling costumes, energetic dance routines and stunning singers; fabulously entertaining! The lively orchestra and professional set changes transformed the stage into the glitz and glamour of Broadway for the night, and the stars of the show were impressively talented. I can’t wait to see the next Hampton production!

Lesson of the Week!
Spanish is one of my favourite lessons of the week. Every lesson this week was fun and exciting and put us up against challenging topics which we all managed to brush past. Spanish is a good lesson where lots of new things are taught, and laughs are laughed. It’s always great fun, and an all-round great lesson.

Club of the Week!
Every week we’ll try and feature a co-curricular club – this week we hear from Ethan C (2L) about his favourite club – The Writer’s Room! He’s also included a book review!
My favourite club is The Writers’ Room. I’m sure others would say the same; and if you don’t go, you are missing out on a lot. On Thursday, we used clichés like diamond in the rough, read between the lines, it was a perfect storm and lots more, and we turned them into a story. Then we read it out loud and we guessed which cliché the writer made the story about (the writer could not use the cliché).
Another week, we were watching book trailers which was very interesting and fun as I didn’t know they even existed. Then I came across the book, Ground Zero and I enjoyed that book trailer the most.
And now into my book review. Ground Zero is a great read. I’m not going to spoil too much but, it is about a boy, with his dad, going up in an elevator in the twin towers during the terrorist attack, now the boy needs to save him and his dad from the explosions. Every so often, the book switches into the perspective of a girl in the future in Pakistan when the America, as revenge, bombed it. It is fun to see the story unravel and how similar different moments in time are. And with the half term break coming, if you are bored and have nothing to do for 2 weeks, get this book and be entertained!
Chemistry Week
As soon as we’re back from the half term break, Chemistry Week is upon us, with lots of talks and activities about you guessed it…Chemistry! Take a look at the poster below to find out what’s happening.
Talk!
Great to see so many of you at this week’s Talk! with Nick Bryant – a really insightful discussion on US Politics. Coming up after half term, and to tie in with Chemistry Week, we’re joined by Jeremy Wrathall, the founder of Cornish Lithium, a company dedicated to finding a reliable long-term source of Lithium for the UK. Cornish Lithium aims to maximise the potential of the industrial scale of Lithium that lies beneath the ground at existing brownfield sites in Cornwall.
There’s no need to book a ticket, just come along to the Hammond Theatre next Tuesday 5 November at 1pm.
Find out more here.

Big shout out to Charles B (2F), who after more than six years of training and over twenty tests for various belts and interim belts, has been promoted to his first dahn black belt in the Korean martial art of Hang Guk Mu Sool. Well done Charles!
We love to hear about what you have been getting up to outside of school and to celebrate your successes in the Second Year Blog! Please do send any information about any of your achievements through to Miss Tiller. B.Tiller@hamptonschool.org.uk
