Tuesday 5 November
1.00pm – 1.45pm
Join us on Tuesday 5 November to hear from scientific entrepreneur Jeremy Wrathall – the founder of Cornish Lithium – a company dedicated to finding a reliable long-term source of Lithium for the UK. Lithium, a metal used to power electric vehicles, mobile phones and to store wind and solar power, is key in the race toward net-zero emissions.
Currently the UK is currently totally reliant on imports of Lithium but over the past decade, several companies, including Cornish Lithium, have been exploring ways to secure a domestic supply of this metal, considered vital to the future industrial strategy of the UK. Cornish Lithium is focussed on the environmentally responsible extraction of lithium from rock and from geothermal brines deep beneath Cornwall, which involves cutting edge chemistry and engineering
Backed by over £50-million of recent investment, including £25m from the UK Government, and the support of the Deputy Prime Minister, Jeremy Wrathall aims to maximise the potential of the industrial scale of lithium that lies beneath the ground at existing brownfield sites in Cornwall.
Chemistry was Jeremy’s favourite subject at school – he combined his studies with engineering and geology to pursue a degree in Mining Engineering and went on to work in ultra-deep gold mines in South Africa. Over his career, Jeremy has visited mines all over the world, including Africa, Russia, China, Australia and the Americas – all of which stems from a love of science and engineering and inspired by an incredible chemistry teacher whilst at secondary school.
Don’t miss this opportunity to understand more about the race to secure one of the UK’s future energy sources.
