Welcome to the First Year Blog!

With one week of half term left, our First Years are fully settled into the swing of Hampton life.

This week National Biology week has been celebrated by the Biology department who have been hosting a “wild” range of events from the Animal Encounter to Hive Live! First Years have been busy getting involved in the variety of activities such as making bunting or listening to the fascinating talk on wildlife photography by David Fettes.

Hampton School’s very own wildlife photography competition was also launched on Thursday, and many of the boys are keen to show off their talent. The categories are: British wildlife, plants, exotic species, and the wild side of pets! Closing date is Friday 10 January. Happy snapping!

Next week is set to be a busy end to the first half term at Hampton, with the first academic trips of the year taking place. The Geography trip to South Downs and History trip to Windsor are always great fun and provide an excellent opportunity for the boys to learn all sorts of hands on knowledge that they can apply back in the classroom. Keep an eye on the weather forecast and fingers crossed that the weather will be good!

SPORTS

Well done to all our footballers last weekend for their performance, with two wins and a draw against Alleyn’s School. Today sees the first away match for our U12F team, good luck!

Last weekend saw our Rugby squads take on St George’s College, which ended with two wins and one loss. Well done to all those who were involved. Good luck to all those playing against Reigate Grammar School tomorrow.

Away from Football and Rugby, well done to all those who played in the Richmond Schools’ Championships for the U13 team for their first Table Tennis match this week.

ANSWER TO LAST WEEK’S RIDDLE

Topical for Biology week, it was an onion!

RIDDLE OF THE WEEK

Merits can be collected from Miss Barnes in the Biology office for any correct answers, happy solving!

WEEKLY REMINDERS

Remember to pack layers and waterproofs for the field trips next week. It will come in handy to have a plastic folder for your booklets for the Geography trip, just in case it’s a bit of a wet day!
