CLUB OF THE WEEK
This is a great time to have a go at something new, so starting us off this half-term, Sacha (2L) reports on Golf Club:
Golf club takes place at the very start of lunch. You meet by the tennis courts and it is run by Mrs May. You do not need to be a good golf player, or even know how to play golf to take part in the club. There are two golf nets where you can hit long shots and drives, and there is a green to practice chipping. If you are looking for a new sport to play, or want to practice your golf, then golf club is the place for you.
JUNIOR WORLD WISE QUIZ
The Geography Department will be hosting their annual Junior World Wise Quiz on Monday 9 December in the Main Hall at 5pm. It is an opportunity for young geographers to test their geographical knowledge against quiz teams from other schools. Quiz teams are made up of three students from First to Third Year. If you love quizzes, have great place knowledge, and would like to be in the Hampton Team, then come along to Geography Club.
Geography Club runs on Wednesday lunchtimes at 12:35 in room 74
BERLIN TRIP
Members of 2P had the exciting opportunity to visit the city of Berlin over the half term. Nico (2P) tells us about the first couple of days.
How does a city-break weekend with your friends in one of the most interesting places in the world sound? Well, let me tell you that a few of us in 2p had that experience in October when we visited Berlin. An early start on Friday, found all of us at Heathrow Terminal Five. Everyone was super eager to go, and no one forgot to bring their passport – that is a real group achievement! After landing in Berlin, we checked in at the Youth Hostel where we stayed. My room was huge and it became the headquarters for the whole group.
In the afternoon, we visited some sights, including Potsdamer Platz, and we finished the first day checking out the Blue Man Group show that was very cool. Saturday was a big day. We visited the Berlin Wall, the GDR museum, the Bernauer Strasse Wall Memorial, and spent the afternoon in the Berlin Zoo, that was a highlight for all. Saturday night in Berlin was my favourite, as we managed to get out (in small groups) to have a German inspired dinner challenge (with no adults checking on us!)
Harry (2P) tells us more:
On the penultimate day in Berlin we travelled to Alexanderplatz to see the Ferseheturm. Then we went and saw the official German clock. After that we visited the Bundestag (German parliament) and saw Brandenburg gate and Checkpoint Charlie. Unfortunately, the next day we only had time to visit the East Side Mall before we had to catch our flight home.
Provence
Members of 2H and 2B also had an exciting start to the half term, as the travelled to Provence at the start of the half term. Edmund (2H) tells us all about it:
On the first day even though the weather wasn’t brilliant we spent some time looking around Cezanne’s old home and school in Provence before heading to our accommodation. Our accommodation was, in fact, a Castle, hundreds of years old. The food there was absolutely brilliant. We had traditional French food every day cooked for us by hand in the castle and the best bit is all the food was organic.
On the second day, we went out to Esparron de Verdon where we spent the day out on the water canoeing and sailing. Obviously, we got a little bit wet which was all part of the fun. After a lovely day on the water, we headed back to the Castle and met Christopher who would be taking us on a night walk to see the stars. The walk was very interesting; trying to see your way in the dark without a light. Wednesday came and we were driven out to Avignon to see the famous bridge. We also went to the old Pope’s Palace and had a look around.
Thursday was by far the best day! In the morning we went to Roussillon where we spent looking around the village before going to the market and buying some items for ourselves and our parents. Most of us ended up buying pizza! The walk was within some ochre cliffs made for some very interesting photos. We rounded off the day at a forest adventure course, enjoyed by all of us. That evening, we had a party, wearing our silly disguises while enjoying an excellent dinner. To finish off the day we watched some Tintin before heading off for a good night’s sleep.
Friday, the last day. To finish off the week we played football and Petanque on-site before enjoying our last meal at the castle. They really pulled out all the stops. We had pizza, fish, fried bread with olives, and some grapes. That afternoon we went to a winery to learn about the production of wine. While travelling to the airport, the photo competition was judged. Congratulations to Harry (2B) for winning.
FOOTBALL
Well done to the U13 A’s who won their ISFA Round 3 match on Monday, 2-1 against The Harrodian School. We can look forward to further match reports over the course of the term and wish them luck in their next match!
