After two glorious weeks off the boys have returned ready and raring to go!  They certainly put their holidays to good use with many taking the opportunity indulge in their favourite hobbies to or to travel within the UK, Europe and beyond.  Several successful trips took place over the break.  Ollie, Abhi and Finlo fill us in:

2P went on a trip to Berlin during half term. We had a jam-packed weekend and we went almost everywhere that Berlin had to offer us. My favourite activity was going to Berlin zoo and especially seeing the hippo and the otters.  Ollie Hartley – 2P

Despite the Second Year French trip beginning earlier than planned rather unexpectedly, we did not stop enjoying all the activities, our personal favourite being the treetop adventure although it was hard to choose against Mr Agulian dressing up as Fellaini!  Thank you to Mr Boardman, Mr Chaveneau, Mr Agulian and Mr Thomas for making the trip as fun and as action-packed as possible, as well as enhancing our cultural understanding of France through visiting the markets, Notre Dame de la Garde and the shipping town of Cassis. Abhi Sundaram and Finlo Cowley – 2B

There were also many sporting successes for Second Year boys in the half term.  Many thanks to Mohammed Kabir Sait for his report on his most recent race:

During the half term, while many were away on holiday, some were enjoying spending time with friends and others merely resting; 3 members of SMRAC (St Mary’s Richmond Athletics Club) who had, in the preceding weeks, trained hard in preparation for the English National Cross Country relay, headed up to the East Midlands. After nearly 3 hours of driving up the M1 we arrived at Mansfield where we were welcomed by a chilly breeze; however, as the day went on the sun broke through the clouds amid intermittent bursts of wind and rain. This was the first occasion where some of us would compete on a National platform alongside some of the fastest athletes in the country. A total of 1178 teams were to compete across a range of age categories from U11, U13, U15 U17 Boys/Girls as well as Junior and Senior Men’s/Women’s. The SMRAC team, comprising of Dominic Rhodes, Louis Cummings & Mohammed Kabir Sait (2P) gave it their all and finished a respectable 35th place in a field of 106 teams in the U13 Boys event. With this experience we look forward to the London Youth Games to be held in two weeks’ time.  Mohammed Kabir Sait – 2P

We also congratulate Ethan Cox (2L) who spent the first week of the break preparing for his black belt grading in karate. The grading took place last weekend, and he was successful in gaining his belt.

The U13 A and B football teams faced tough opposing sides on the first day back after the break.  U13As were knocked out of the ESFA cup by a strong Dame Alice Owen’s side, but are undeterred and looking forward to their ISFA match this weekend against King’s House School.  The U13B Surrey Cup match against Richmond Park Academy ended 3-2.  Hampton’s goals came from James Kerr and Arton Shala (both 2H).  We wish all teams the very best of luck in their next matches.

We finish this week by saying well done to all the Second Years who have picked up more merits and by congratulating the boys who have hit new merit milestones :  Vathshan Ramanakanthan, Arton Shala, Rohan Raj, Min Jea Liew and James Kerr (10 merits) and Ben Francis (40 merits).  Don’t forget to see Mrs Owen for merit signing during break time on Wednesdays!
