Class of 2001

“I can be testament to the fact that I once had a free place at Hampton, and it completely changed my life. Growing up on above a corner shop, a few miles away, to going to one of the best universities in the world, to getting a good job in the City – and I hope, being a good human being – it’s all down to Hampton.”

Q

What is your memory of Hampton?

A

I just remember coming in, feeling safe and having lots of fun. You wanted to be there, and at the end of the day it was almost like, ‘Ah! It’s time to go home!’ Because you wanted to stay with your friends and there was so much to do.

Q

What was your time like?

A

The opportunities on offer at Hampton are almost infinite. From sport to co-curricular there’s loads on offer. Lessons were brilliant. Hampton must look for teachers with something special, who can bring lessons to life and those people really changed my life.

Q

What was the atmosphere like?

A

Hampton helps you get the grades but also ensures that you grow up into a good citizen - that you know how to treat people well, that you’re respectful, that you’re chivalrous, that you have good manners and that you’re patient. Everybody I know who’s left Hampton is a genuinely nice person and you like spending time with them.

Q

What is your message to other families?

A

Hampton gave me so much: not just a wonderful education but my best friends in life. We’ve been best men at each other’s weddings. Even the girls from LEH, next door, I consider some of my best friends. It is a truly wonderful place and it’s making wonderful changes and supporting many boys, year after year, with these free places. Come and see the school; talk to the teachers and pupils and have that opportunity to change your life as well.
