The Hammond Theatre was filled with music as Hampton School’s musicians came together for the annual Summer Concert, bringing another outstanding year of music-making to a fitting close.
The evening featured performances from a wide range of ensembles, including the Chamber Orchestra, Concert Band, Swing Band, Chamber Choir and Symphony Orchestra, highlighting the remarkable breadth of musical opportunities available at the School. Pre-concert and interval performances added to the celebratory atmosphere, showcasing the enthusiasm and commitment of pupils across all year groups.
The programme spanned an impressive range of musical styles, from classical masterworks by Bach, Ravel, Grieg and Tchaikovsky to jazz, popular and contemporary pieces. Audience members were also treated to a series of exceptional solo performances from Upper Sixth musicians, each accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra. Pianist Oscar delivered a virtuosic performance of Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2, while double bassist Oli demonstrated remarkable skill and musicianship in Koussevitsky’s Concerto Op. 3. Nathaniel showcased his vocal talent in Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs, supported by both the Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Choir.
A particular highlight of this year’s concert was the stirring performance by the Symphony Orchestra, joined by the Chamber Choir, which brought the formal programme to a memorable close.
The final item of the evening saw Hampton’s departing Upper Sixth musicians take to the stage to perform Star Dan, an original composition written as a heartfelt thank you to the Music Department for its guidance, encouragement and support throughout their seven years at the School.
Congratulations to all the performers and thank you to the Music department and visiting music staff whose hard work and dedication made the concert such a success.
