Hampton athletes from across the year groups delivered an impressive series of performances at both the Richmond Schools’ Athletics Championships and the Middlesex Schools’ Track & Field Championships.

The Richmond Schools’ Championships, held at St Mary’s University and jointly hosted with LEH, saw more than 500 athletes from 11 local schools compete across a full programme of track and field events. A team of 40 Hamptonians from First to Fifth Year represented the School, finishing an excellent second overall.

There were a number of standout performances across the age groups, including victories in hurdles, middle-distance and several field events. In the junior competition, Hampton athletes secured a series of podium finishes, including a borough record in the shot put and a number of closely fought second-place finishes on the track. The intermediate athletes were equally impressive, with strong performances in the throws and jumps, while the senior group saw Fourth Year Luke M set a new School record in the 100m hurdles and claim an additional victory in the long jump.

The Middlesex Schools’ Track & Field Championships provided a further opportunity for Hampton athletes to compete at a high level, with 11 boys selected to represent Richmond Schools as part of a strong 60-plus athlete team. All performed admirably against high-quality opposition.

Among the highlights, Luke M retained his title as Middlesex Champion in the 100m hurdles, securing qualification for the National Schools competition. There were also podium finishes in the field events, with Ollie S and Toby B both earning qualification for the Southern Counties Championships following strong performances in the triple jump and discus respectively. Fifth Year Joe T added to the School’s success with a second-place finish in the U17 hurdles ensuring qualification for the Southern Counties Championships.

The two competitions underline the depth of talent across Hampton athletics, with athletes competing strongly at both borough and county level as the season continues to gather momentum.
