Hampton School’s Senior Quiz team reached the national finals of the Senior Schools’ Challenge Quiz, marking the third successive year that a Hampton Senior team has achieved this impressive feat.

The Schools’ Challenge Quiz is a nationwide general knowledge competition for schools and has been running for almost 50 years. Divided into Senior, Intermediate and Junior competitions, it follows a format based on the popular television programme University Challenge. Matches are played over a series of rounds, beginning with a starter question followed by three bonus questions, usually linked by a common theme. This year’s competition began in the autumn term and featured over 130 teams from across the country.

Hampton’s Senior A team — Kanishk, Alex, Oli and Ben — enjoyed a strong run through the early rounds, recording victories against Chatham & Clarendon Grammar School, Haberdashers’ School, King’s School Canterbury and King’s College Taunton to secure their place at the national finals. The finals were held at Stamford School in Lincolnshire, bringing together some of the strongest school quiz teams in the country.

At the finals, Hampton performed superbly, defeating King Edward’s Camp Hill School and Kingham Hill School to reach the highly anticipated final against Colchester Royal Grammar School. The final proved to be a tense and closely fought contest, with both teams demonstrating an outstanding breadth of knowledge across a wide range of subjects, including English Literature, History, Sport and Classics.

Despite a determined and impressive performance, Hampton narrowly missed out on the title, finishing as runners‑up after a thrilling contest. Nonetheless, it was a fantastic day of quizzing and an excellent achievement for the team, who finished as runners up in the national competition for the second time in three years.
