Hampton School’s annual Unsilenced concert returned to the Hammond Theatre this week, marking a significant milestone for the event as it celebrated its fifth consecutive year. The concert once again shone a spotlight on the music of women composers, bringing together more than thirty talented pupils for an evening of remarkable performances.
This year’s programme highlighted the breadth and diversity of women’s contributions to classical music, featuring chamber works, choral pieces and piano solos by over twenty composers. The repertoire ranged from the expressive Romantic writing of Fanny Mendelssohn to contemporary works by award‑winning Nigerian‑American composer Nkeiru Okoye, offering audiences a rich musical journey across styles and eras.
Pupil hosts Nathaniel and Ryan guided the evening with confidence and insight, introducing each section of the concert and sharing background on composers whose influence has often been underrepresented in conventional musical history. Their commentary added depth to the performances and encouraged listeners to reflect on the importance of celebrating these creative voices.
The concert once again demonstrated the dedication and musicianship of Hampton pupils, who delivered a thoughtfully curated and beautifully executed programme. Unsilenced has continued to grow each year, both in scale and ambition, and this year’s anniversary edition served as a testament to the School’s ongoing commitment to promoting musical diversity and representation.
