Second Year Hamptonians embraced an exciting opportunity to broaden their linguistic horizons during this year’s Languages Week, a vibrant celebration of the diverse language options available at Hampton.

Across several lively sessions, pupils sampled French, German, Spanish, Russian, and Mandarin, gaining a flavour of the sounds, rhythms, and cultural perspectives each language offers. These taster lessons are designed to help Second Years make an informed choice about which languages they would like to continue studying as they move into the Third Year.

From testing out their pronunciation of French phrases to exploring the Cyrillic alphabet in Russian and the tonal patterns of Mandarin, the young linguists approached each session with curiosity and enthusiasm. Second Years also enjoyed an introduction to Classical Greek, exploring the ancient alphabet and linguistic foundations that underpin much of Western literature and thought. The sessions highlighted not only the academic benefits of language learning but also the cultural richness that comes with it.
