Hampton welcomed over 100 junior pupils from 38 partner schools for an exciting day of music making.
Young musicians from primary and prep schools across the local area came together with Hamptonians to rehearse several pieces of music, which they performed in a concert to conclude the workshop. Led by Hampton’s Music Department with support from Senior School musicians, pupils participated in a range of masterclasses in singing, brass, woodwind, percussion and strings.
After working hard during rehearsals, the young instrumentalists and singers entertained family and friends in a celebration concert which included the choristers performing One Last Day from the musical Wicked, as well as a note-perfect performance of the traditional American song Shenandoah. The Wind Band played a rousing rendition of Swingtime Rag, whilst the String Orchestra performed the haunting Hedwig’s Theme from the Harry Potter films. All the instrumentalists joined forces for The Fellowship Theme from The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The concert culminated with the young musicians singing and playing Hooked on a Feeling, with the orchestra joining in with the words Ooga-Chaka as well as playing!
