Hamptonians were joined by Year 10 pupils from seven partner schools for an inspiring afternoon of careers guidance in the STEM field.
We were delighted to welcome a range of guest speakers from across the STEM fields including:
- Dr Andrew McHutchon, Head of Data Science for the McLaren Formula 1 team.
- Helena Gilchrist – Clinical Psychologist currently working in adult neuro-rehabilitation.
- Charlotte Massey – Business Development Manager at the NPL
- Professor Shahid Khan – a specialist in liver and gastrointestinal diseases and Professor of Practice in Hepatology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
- Michael Taplin – Senior Petrophysicist at BP
The purpose of the day was to inspire Year 10 pupils from Bolder Academy, Chelsea Academy, Reach Academy, St Richard Reynold’s College, LEH, Lampton School, Waldegrave and Hampton to give them exposure to the broad range of exciting STEM careers available to them. Pupils had the opportunity to interview the speakers in small groups and learn about their career pathways.
Organiser of the day Hampton Physics teacher, Mrs Rebecca Nicholson said:
It was very rewarding to see 120 pupils from Hampton and local partner schools spend the afternoon hearing about the range of fascinating and rewarding careers open to them across Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). We are incredibly grateful to the speakers for taking the time to share their experiences and offer invaluable advice and guidance.
