Hampton’s mathematicians have excelled in the 2025 Intermediate Maths Challenge (IMC), a national competition run by the UK Maths Trust (UKMT).
Over 320 pupils in Third, Fourth and Fifth Year sat the challenging paper, which tests pupils’ problem-solving skills and ability to think critically under time pressure. Each year, over 250,000 pupils across the country sit the 60 minute, 25 multiple choice paper and across the three year groups, Hamptonians achieved a superb 128 Gold awards.
Particular mention must go to Fifth Year pupils Jihwan and Adrian who both achieved a perfect score – an outstanding achievement. Jihwan and Adrian, along with their peers Arie and Syn Foh, have all qualified for the Maclaurin Olympiad, a fantastic opportunity to compete with the best mathematical minds across the country.
It wasn’t just our Fifth Years who achieved impressive results. Fourth Years Zhenbo, Eric and Haadi have also progressed to the next stage of the Year 10 competition, the Hamilton Olympiad, while Third Year Hamptonians Alex, Kavin, Shishir and Kailan will now move forward to the Cayley Olympiad. The follow-on rounds to the IMC are all two hour challenges consisting of six Olympiad style problems. Around 1,800 pupils qualify from the IMC each year, which highlights the impressive skills of the eleven Hamptonians who have progressed to the next round of the prestigious national competition.
