Hampton string players from across the year groups entertained an appreciative Hammond Theatre audience in this year’s String Concert.

The annual concert delivered an unforgettable evening of music, as 35 Hamptonians from across the year groups showcased their exceptional talents. The event celebrated the versatility of string instruments, with performances featuring violins, violas, guitars, double bass, cellos and the harp. From the timeless compositions of Bach and Beethoven to the modern melodies of The Beatles and Crowded House, the concert offered a rich and diverse repertoire.

The audience was treated to some superb performances from our ensembles. Lower School violinists Albert and James kicked off the concert with an outstanding performance of Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins in D minor ably accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra. Guitarist Daniel performed a moving version of Yesterday from Lennon and McCartney, with fantastic support from our senior String Quartet. The Junior Guitar Ensemble played a lively rendition of Rumba Pachanga arranged by Mr Hvartchilkov, whilst cellists Jian and Gabriel, also accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra, performed Vivaldi’s Concerto in G minor for two Cellos with aplomb. The evening culminated with Sixth Form violinists Harry, Declan, Edmund and Yangzi who gave an accomplished performance of another Vivaldi piece, Concerto for Four Violins in B minor, a wonderful way to end to the concert.

Head of Strings, Miss Elizabeth van Ments, praised the musicians for their performances:

What a fantastic evening of string playing!

I was so impressed by the standard of every  performance, covering such a variety of instruments and musical styles. Well done to everyone involved!
