Fifth Year athlete Marcus Solomon is enjoying a great start to the running season with a double win in the Bushy Parkrun this term. Marcus set a 5K personal best in September and, repeating the feat in November, knocked 25-seconds off his previous time.

The 5K Bushy Parkrun was the first ever parkrun and regularly attracts around 1,500 runners every Saturday. Last weekend, Marcus said he noted the perfect weather conditions and knew that he stood a good chance of running well. Starting from the front and running the last kilometre at a sprint he finished in 15.41 seconds, an exceptional achievement for a 15-year-old.

Marcus says he is delighted with his performance:

I went straight to the front of the pack and then gave it everything I had for the last section of the run. I have been training hard recently and it’s great to see this paying off. It’s cool to win the parkrun but to chalk up two PB’s is very rewarding.

This is one of many running achievements for Marcus who has already competed at national level on six occasions. He also entered the Hampton history books as a First Year when he broke a 32-year-old school record in the 1500m. It was twelve-year-old Marcus’ first appearance representing Hampton and he completed the race in an impressive 4 minutes, 41.92 seconds breaking a record set in 1989.

Marcus is now focussing on the Cross Country season and is hoping to represent Middlesex at the English Schools’ Championships in the spring term.
