A packed schedule of activities led to an exciting National Chemistry Week for Hamptonians. A mixture of practical experiments and informative lectures offered opportunities for scientists of all years to widen their subject knowledge.
Starting strong with practical experiments across the Junior Chemistry clubs, pupils discovered the process for making copper sulfate crystals. Budding science enthusiasts enjoyed developing their own crystals using this process.
The highlight of the week was a Talk! from Jeremy Wrathall, founder and CEO of Cornish Lithium. A packed audience of Hamptonians, partner school pupils, parents and members of staff gathered in the Hammond Theatre to hear Mr Wrathall talk about his 30 years in the mining industry, and how his company, Cornish Lithium, is part of the drive to find a sustainable domestic source of lithium for the UK
Upper School pupils put their scientific knowledge to the test in the ‘Top of the Bench’ competition, a national team quiz involving Third, Fourth, and Fifth Year Hamptonians that challenged their practical and team working skills.
Bringing the week of scientific exploration to a close, Hamptonians and LEH attended lectures on The Quantum World and the 2024 Nobel Prize for Chemistry delivered by Mr Worrall and Mr Schofield, respectively.
