A trip to Barcelona offered Fifth Year and Lower Sixth linguists invaluable language practice and the chance to explore the art, history and culture of this vibrant Spanish city.
The Hamptonians attended a local language school in the morning which allowed them to improve both their oral and written Spanish. They also had the opportunity to practise their skills with native speakers, as they stayed with a host family for the duration of the trip. The afternoons saw a mix of cultural sightseeing and exploration of the local area. From the weird and wonderful architecture of Antoni Gaudí at Park Güell to a fascinating tour of Camp Nou, the home of FC Barcelona, there were plenty of opportunities for the linguists to immerse themselves in the culture and history of the Catalan capital. Pupils also enjoyed a trip further afield to the coastal town of Sitges, where they explored the museum, played football on the beach and enjoyed a walking tour of the vibrant Spanish town.
One of the most valuable aspects of the trip was the opportunity for Hamptonians to hone their conversational Spanish. Whether engaging in classroom activities at the local school or ordering tapas at a local restaurant, the linguists were encouraged to practise their language skills in real-world settings.
