Lower Sixth oarsmen George Buckingham and Harry Oliver both achieved two Gold medals apiece for team Great Britain at the prestigious Munich Regatta. Competing against some of the top European teams, the Hamptonians were on top form.

Harry achieved his first Gold as part of a Men’s Eight, following this up with a superb win in the Men’s pair. George took two Golds rowing with the GB Men’s Eight boat. Results at this regatta help drive the strategy for the World Rowing U19 Championships team formation later in the summer and the Hamptonians are looking forward to an excellent season ahead with the main focus on Nat Schools and Henley Royal Regatta after which they will continue with GB trials for the international racing season.

Reflecting back on the Munich weekend Harry said:

This is what any schoolboy rower dreams of achieving and it was a fantastic weekend of racing, which really couldn’t have gone any better.

George added:

From what we know, it’s the first time that two Hamptonians have been selected for the U19 junior national team at this stage of the season, and to come home with two Gold medals apiece is a wonderful achievement for us all.

John Layng, Under 19 GB Rowing Team Manager, said:

This was a superb weekend of racing during which all the rowers learned much about themselves and gained valuable experience from the high standard of competition.
