The War in Ukraine: Two Years On

Olivier Evans, UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office

Thursday 22 February

1:00pm – 1:45pm

February 2024 marks the two-year anniversary of Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine and 24 months on, the conflict shows no sign of easing.

Latest estimates show at least 10,000 Ukrainians have been killed, and 14.6 million people in need of humanitarian assistance. It is estimated that ten million people have been forcibly displaced by the war with 6.3 million refugees fleeing Ukraine to neighbouring countries.

The Russia-Ukraine war has also had far-reaching effects on the global economy and wider international relations. US and Western allies have provided important political support and weaponry to Ukraine up until now, however will this support vacillate as crises in the Middle East dominate the headlines, and the upcoming American Election detracts attention and billions of aid?

Join us to hear Foreign Office diplomat Olivier Evans assess the state of the war as it enters its third year and the ongoing implications for global security and international diplomacy.
