A trip to Barcelona offered Fifth Year and Lower Sixth linguists invaluable language practice and the chance to explore the art, history and culture of this vibrant Spanish city.
Pupils spent mornings at a local language school improving their oral and written Spanish skills. Activities included plenty of discussion-based exercises, a Spanish game of Trivial Pursuit and learning about the different cultures of the city. In the afternoons, Hamptonians explored the local area marvelling at the famous architecture of famous artist Antoni Gaudí, as well as putting their language skills to the test visiting local markets, shops and restaurants. The senior pupils accommodation was in a homestay environment, which also gave them the opportunity to hone their Spanish with a local host family.
A highlight of the trip was a tour of the Camp Nou Stadium, home to Spanish footballing giants FC Barcelona, where the Hamptonians learnt about the club’s history. The group also visited the Catalonian seaside town of Sitges where they enjoyed a tour of the town and ended the day with a hotly-contested game of beach football.
