Lower Sixth Hamptonian Henry Ayres has once again excelled in the UK Linguistics Olympiad (UKLO), the annual competition which challenges pupils to solve complex linguistic data problems.

After achieving a Gold award in round one of the 2023 UKLO, Henry secured a well-deserved Merit for his performance in round two of the Olympiad, which involved sitting a challenging 3.5 hour exam. Only 90 pupils across the country sat the paper and Henry’s award places him in the top half of candidates, which is a fantastic achievement.

Classics teacher, Miss Amy Winstock, who organises the initiative at Hampton, was delighted with Henry’s continued success in the UKLO competition:

What a performance from Henry, who has knocked his previous Round TWO record out of the park and secured a Merit in a competition tailored to the top linguists in the country. He is a gifted, hardworking and ambitious linguist, and I look forward to seeing him give the UKLO one last shot next year!
