Hampton’s Music Department has run a hugely ambitious and successful programme of events and performances during the spring term, with musicians and choristers entertaining appreciative Hammond Theatre audiences at eight wonderful concerts.
The term culminated with the Spring Concert, which celebrated the world of film music and included over 150 musicians and choristers entertaining family and friends. Our ensembles and choirs performed a selection of film classics, from the Symphony Orchestra’s spine-tingling performance of the theme from ET to Voices of Lions‘ lively rendition of You’ve Got a Friend in Me from the animated film Toy Story. Other highlights included a rip-roaring performance of the theme from Pirates of the Caribbean by Hampton Sinfonia, while the Upper Sixth Percussion Trio treated us to a performance with a difference as they played Filmospheres.
The evening culminated in two performances from our Upper Sixth musicians. Bassoonist Seb Evans played a superb rendition of a movement from the Concerto in F Major by von Weber accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra, while Kai Kelly performed a sophisticated recital on the Baritone Horn alongside the Brass Band. The perfect conclusion to a wonderful term of music.
