Lower Sixth musician Tomás Escobar has been named Richmond Young Pianist of the Year at the 2023 Richmond upon Thames Performing Arts Festival.

The talented musician played a selection of pieces in the 13 to 18 age group category, including Liszt’s Vallée d’Obermann and Danzas Argentinas by Alberto Ginasetra. Tomás was awarded the Edith Steinitz Memorial prize of £100.

As well as playing the piano to a high level, the Hamptonian is a talented saxophonist and has recently taken up the oboe with the aim of taking his grade 8 exam in the coming months.

Tomás hopes to study music once he leaves Hampton, either classical saxophone at a prestigious Conservatoire or academic music at university.
